When was the last time you fed a wild animal?

These are New Forest ponies I fed carrots to last week

When I leave home in the morning the first thing i do is to feed the birds in my garden.I love seeing them fly I in front of me,knowing what I have for them. And I continue feeding the birds, especially crows, wherever I go from that point, until I get home again.

I carry cocktail sausages which I give only to the crows. Some crows ignore the bread I put down and buzz me for the sausages! 馃檪

@pedrohedgerow they probably look at me and say "here comes that miserable woman with the reduced bread again". The robin likes meat or worms, but if he's starving he'll eat the multigrain bread.

@Travelbug Thanks for the BA 馃嵎

I had never heard of them, nor knew they even existed. I appreciate the photos. I would love to pet one and feed it.

They don't look too wild. They are coming to car door like you are an Uber Eats delivery!!
Travelbug56-60, F
@Hanging2 yes they are very spoilt ponies and as we slowly tried to drive off ambushed the car

When I travel up North on my Motorcycle, there are often Foxes hanging around the gas stations hoping for handouts. Sad to see, but love the visuals, they are so amazing. I had one run into my tent looking for a quick steal, but I do not have food anywhere near my tent up North, so he left empty handed. The signs around here say "A fed bear is a dead bear". Do not feed them.

2007-2008. We used to have a flock of wild turkeys that would come and peck around my bird feeder, so I began to buy cracked corn for them, and they would approach me when they saw me coming with the bucket. I regretted that very deeply. They tore up my perennial flower bed and shredded a very old growth of ivy planted by the previous owner of my home. VERY destructive birds.
Travelbug56-60, F
@4meAndyou they sound scarey. I got chased by a flock of swans once!
4meAndyouF
@Travelbug They did scare me a time or two. I thought the male leader was getting too close once, and he looked like he might attack me for the bucket of corn, so I threw the corn as fast as I could. Eventually I stopped feeding them, after they wrecked my garden.
Travelbug56-60, F
@4meAndyou some animals get very aggressive around food. The small birds are OK though.

Snow birds
Travelbug56-60, F
@cherokeepatti is that the only time you see them.. Before it snows? Are they a migrating bird?
cherokeepatti61-69, F
@Travelbug I don鈥檛 know if they stay here in the summer or not. I know they seem scared they will starve and know when it鈥檚 going to get real cold or come a snow so they start looking for food by scouting around looking for food on porches or in feeders. We had migrating Canada geese but have a lot that stays all year round now.
Travelbug56-60, F
@cherokeepatti same with the geese in the UK. I'll Google these snow birds and see what they do.

A few days ago. I throw crumbs and bits to grackles around town when I see them.
SW-User
@xixgun That鈥檚 usually where I see them too. They also hang out on my car quite a bit whether I feed them or not, so I decided to just give them something from time to time. 馃槄
xixgunM
@SW-User I get some meat from the deli and a couple of stale donuts (and a cheapo plastic container and pour water in it) and put out sometimes.
Travelbug56-60, F
@xixgun they do that in my local tesco
BalmyNitesF
Just to be aware, it's actually an offence (byelaws) to feed the ponies
I think you鈥檙e great and I鈥檓 sure they appreciate your feeding them. I feed wild animals when I can. @Travelbug
BalmyNitesF
@LadyGrace You're obviously not an equestrian either 馃槃
Travelbug56-60, F
@LadyGrace thank you, particularly in winter they need a little extra.
Not for awhile. I fed goats but they weren鈥檛 wild, at least not in the sense that they were free. They were in the zoo.
Travelbug56-60, F
@MsAnnThropy goats are always hungry, I've seen them eating the bark off the trees.
NorthernRoses22-25, F
To be honest I try to never feed wild animals if I can avoid it, with an exception of some nice crows and magpies who I feed every time I can
Around here I don鈥檛. They get too comfortable around people and end up getting hit by cars. 馃檨
@Travelbug You have the most amazing animals on the planet in Oz.
Travelbug56-60, F
@bijouxbroussard I am Australian but have lived in the UK for a long time.
@Travelbug Ah. I took my hint from the username. 馃槃
abooklover56-60, F
I've fed those ponies many years ago.
I last fed wild deer last fall.
Travelbug56-60, F
@abooklover wow, there's a park near me with deer in it and we feed them carrots and bananas. I love deer.
abooklover56-60, F
@Travelbug The love graham crackers- I don't know if you have those.
Travelbug56-60, F
@abooklover I've not heard of them here in the UK.
