Chow- Chow will grow to a height of approximately 18 – 22 inches.
Their names are not of Chinese orgin.
They were used as working dogs in China.
They have straight back legs.
They have an unusual blue-black tongue.
Although Chow Chows are typically red, they come in a range of different striking coat colors. Instead of having a ‘cheesy’ grin, Chow Chows are known to have a toothy one.
This is two extra teeth in their mouths. Most dogs only have 42 teeth, but the Chow has 44.
Do not put them in water! Chow chows are not usually social, outgoing dogs.
They tend to be aloof with strangers and can be aggressive with other dogs.
This is fitting with their history as guard dogs for homes and livestock.
Early socialization to other dogs, pets and people is important.
