To neuter or to not neuter..?

So I really didn't want to because I feared that Bruno would change and he has...
He's become aggressive, more stubborn, hard or hearing and now isn't very nice to other unneutered dogs.

I'm really upset.
I feel like I've made the biggest mistake of his life!
He bit me today because we were in my office and a colleague is nervous of him.
He wasnt having any of it.
I held his leash and he just kept biting it and then my finger until he did actually bite me.
I didnt know he cut the skin until he started licking it.

Im worried now...

Absolutely fix a dog, that reduces aggression. Consult an animal behaviorist/trainer on the bitings.
Discuss this with your vet. Being neutered can’t be the reason for more aggression. Intact dogs are more likely to be aggressive. Is it possible he is in pain ?
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard he seems to be hungry all the time.
gdon39 · 46-50, M
Please try to keep the faith. You absolutely did the best thing for Bruno long term.

Is he fully healed from surgery?
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@gdon39 vets saw him and said he looks great. His wounds are pretty much none existent. He loves that little empty sac he keeps licking it. I know he misses his ball.
Poor thing.
No pain meds, he didn't have a long morning walk as there was a storm and he hates the rain.
In the afternoon I had to go to work so that's what changed...
Even my boss said he was different.
He's not the same dog.

If he was scared or something u would have thought the fireworks would trigger him. But I've been able to make him unfazed by it.
gdon39 · 46-50, M
@Mellowgirl ty for responding. I worry way too much about those 4 legged dummies, But for good reason. I wish you all the love and luck getting through this.

Time and patience my friend.

JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I don't think that has to do with being neutered. Something else must be going on.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@JimboSaturn @JimboSaturn today he wasn't himself. This morning I asked him to sit on my armchair as I was sewing but he kept jumping down to eat the scraps of material. I told him no and he wasn't listening.
So I put him in the crate until I finished and cleaned up.
He tried to push the gate door open so I had return to training.
He barked at me so aggressively, claws In the carpet, arched back, teeth baring.
I stood my ground but that was scary.
That's not like him...
He doesn't like being told anything right now.
And he's started biting and painfully biting
Gangstress · 41-45, F
keep some ointment on that bite hun, and keep and eye on it please, might be worth ringing 111 in case it becomes infected, just remember dogs lick dodgy areas!

I'm sorry its been a bit difficult, I would suggest ringing your vet. theres been recent studies about neutering dogs and it cause actually cause them to be more aggressive, so I doubt it is that if honest.

I think its something else hun, get him checked over

Lots of love to you both xx
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Gangstress thank you x
gdon39 · 46-50, M
The second paragraph is very telling. If removing the stimulus causing the aggression (easier said) but as the person with opposable thumbs and reasoning you are in charge. You can do it
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
I think you should. A friend 9f mine had a fog that isnt neutered yet. I offered to pay for it. Hr starting to fight with other dogs.. You need to be careful. Dogs have alot of power Be careful please.
Lilymoon · F
I would say yeah you should neuter him.... it calms them down.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Lilymoon he was nice and kind before now he's aggressive
Lilymoon · F
@Mellowgirl maybe talk to your vet... see what they have to say
Banksy83 · 41-45, M
You have lost his trust you need a dog whisperer to help you get it back hun
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
That is certainly not why he’s acting like that.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Chevy454 then whyyyy

@4meAndyou thank you for this website...
I think there's an issue with the woman who claims to be afraid of dogs.
I think she is either intimidated by me or just anxious being in my presence.
I have noticed 2x now she has been off when I'm around, the first time she made a very off comment to me. "That often home sewing looks homemade".
This was after our boss mentioned I sew clothes etc.

Then again today with Bruno. She kept giving him really odd looks but she looked stressed.
It was only after my boss called him over that she mentioned her "allergies".
Later on she said she was nervous of dogs.
She is nervous. A mention of the term people of colour was made and how its not so appropriate. I then said I'm not so hot on it since "I'm not coloured in". (another time to dive into this)
Anyways we all laughed and it was supposed to be humourous but it seemed to make things awkward for her.
I'm getting vibes... Not nice one's either.

Was this what he was picking up on? I'm not entirely sure but one thing I know is that he hates being tied up and restricted and he definitely made that clear.

Sorry for the long reply
4meAndyou · F
@Mellowgirl Perfectly okay for the long reply. Yes, it's true that dogs, (and people), can tell when someone is nervous around them, or afraid. When I was a child, we had neighbors who came over often, and they were terrified of dogs. Our dogs were kept out in the back yard when they visited, but my understanding is that frightened or nervous behavior in strangers can trigger a dog.
What kind of dog is he?
Napoleon complex?@Mellowgirl
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@violet71 what does that mean for a dog?
I apologize I’m biased@Mellowgirl

Always sterilize, always. Sterilizing is just being responsible. The world has too many strays, and breeders should be outlawed as well.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@SW-User I've had over 40 dogs in my life and none have become aggressive because of spaying or neutering.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@JimboSaturn so what's going on with him...

@TrashCat he had an undescended testicle..
TrashCat · M
@Mellowgirl thats a tough call. Corrective surgery is oftenmore costly thank neutering. Sorry to hear that
@TrashCat Do you have any stats that are not anecdotal ? Everything I’m seeing shows that neutered pets live longer, though there are some cancers they may be susceptible to.
