@summersmiles If it's not to late, just take her to a vet where they can euthanize it.

@SinlessOnslaught the deed is done

She is showing her love. In her mind she is bringing you a gift; a toy she is still playing with. Now my guy is more of a catch & release sort, which is better on one level but then leaves you chasing birds around the house to let them back out, or mice scurrying into inaccessible spots God knows where.

I couldn’t stand by and watch that

My cat is an indoor cat. She has no interest in going outside. As in, I accidentally left the deck door once, she got out for a minute, then she ran back in immediately.
But I'm sure if she catches a baby rabbit, she would do the same thing your cat did.
My dog, did that. At first I did not realize what he had in his mouth. He hadn't eaten it yet, so I had to free it, and at that point, it had been choked to death.
Turns out rabbits hide their nests in plain sight. That's the survival strategy. So, my dog now cannot be in the fenced, wooded backyard, during spring.

F. Catus might be a small and adorable animal, but before anything else it is a carnivorous predator and it acts like it.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
The main cause is that you feed her.
She hunts because it moves and is edible... that’s just natural.
Then she catches it. She plays with it because it’s still moving... and she’s not hungry.
In the wild, she would catch it, immediately kill it, and then eat it... because she will go hungry if it escapes.
Why cook when you have room service? 😀

@newjaninev2 I'm sorry. Natural it may be but I hate cats. Euthanasia or sterilisation for prediatory animals. Snag is one might have to start with humans.
UnderLockDown · M
@alan20 What about the invasive rabbits, or rats? My half feral cats do a good service to the community.
Nanoose · 61-69, M
I sometimes feel the same way about my cat. She is so affectionate with me but she is a cold hearted killer with birds, mice and baby rabbits. Cheers and happy weekend!

Fluffy, soft, beautiful, graceful... and a little bit psychopathic.😽😼😈

😑But didn't you try to get it from her?
summersmiles · 51-55, F
@SW-User it's neck is broken. I just want her to quickly finish the job. But torture is part of the routine.
SomeMichGuy · M
@summersmiles So interrupt the routine.
Imagine if they took over the world…

Your cat is a b*tch..

thats not nice
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I knew someone who had a golden retriever and she would rescue baby rabbits and bring it to the office for someone to help take care of. I think that’s one reason I’ve always wanted to get one.

SomeMichGuy · M
@summersmiles ...but you can deny her the kill for rabbits, birds, what-have-you, and let the cat focus on mice, voles, rats (if your cat is big enough to take these on safely).
summersmiles · 51-55, F
@SomeMichGuy she kills anything smaller than herself.
SomeMichGuy · M
@summersmiles ...ok?
SomeMichGuy · M
You could get it away from your cat to deny your cat the kill and say "NO" before/while doing it.
Consistency in language can work, and stopping the cat can train it away from non-mice/-voles, etc.

Cats will be cats.

I addressed this in my recent Skeletor Sunday post. Cats torture small animals like that, not because they are sadistic, but because if they don't wear them down before going for the neck, there's a chance they could get bitten and seriously injured. Even a cute little fluffy bunny rabbit has weapons it can use against a cat. Those funny looking teeth can take a nice chunk out of you, and those silly clodhopper feet can kick like hell.
Of course, a baby bunny can't do all that, but your cat doesn't know that.

@LordShadowfire really wow I didn't know that.
But it still looks to me like she's having a ball torturing.

This is half of the reason why domestic cats should be indoor pets only
