My Parakeet, Ike, Answered His Own Question Last Night….

Once again as I was sitting down to eat dinner….Chuck steak with veggies, Tapioca-Cheese Rolls, Chopped Salad, Green Onions….Ike pipes up and says “What do we have?….Nothing”. I told him “that’s right, you got nothing”. And he said no more. How does a parakeet after so many years start thinking they should be given all sorts of food like humans eat?

@cherokeepatti Sad, my girl lost her mate too.
We tried to find her another one but she didn't connect as well as the one she lost.

@Adrift I had another female that lost her mate. She didn’t seem to grieve though. My neighbor had two male parakeets that he gave me and she took a shine to one of them. They were in separate cages and she’d scoot over to talk to him and he would scoot over to get near to her. He started chewing on a very small bar in his cage and he eventually broke it and he would squeeze out of the opening. The canaries would make their alarm sounding which is their way of tattling on escapees. I would go find him and catch him and put him back in his cage. The third time he did it I found him on top of Sweetie’s cage staring down at her. So I caught him again and told him if he liked her so much he could live with her. They never fussed even one time, got along very well and very happy. She would fuss at her first mate and boss him around and especially if she caught him watching tv, she’d squawk and push him so he couldn’t watch it. But she never did anything to Mike.

@cherokeepatti I think this is observation born of love and an open mind.Thank you so much for sharing!
Wow!
I'd say that maybe he wants to partake in all aspects of your life , including the meals, your meals.

I am so tickled and amazed.

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON they were happier today, first time all week they got to go in the sun room and the sun was shining. It was warm enough for them.
@cherokeepatti Lovely. 🤗 💛🐦

Ever since you posted that dog pouting photo to describe the way Ike pouts, I have noticed that my cat is doing the same thing! Goes and sits in the bedroom doorway with his back to me, and glances at me over his shoulder to see if I noticed!

@4meAndyou You know what else Boo-Boo did. I skipped one day cleaning their cages. The next day he starts asking “Will you take care of me?” And he did it about once an hour. I finally cleaned their cages in the afternoon and gave them fresh food & water. A couple of hours later I reminded him saying “I took care of you, I cleaned your cages” and he says “We know it”. Didn’t want to be reminded I guess.

@cherokeepatti Awww. That is absolutely amazing. It must smell bad to them, so that they are asking to be cleaned. But how absolutely sweet.

@4meAndyou it’s only Boo-Boo that tells me he wants me to take care of him.

So beautiful!
It's logical in a way. They ask to go sit in the sun, and they ask to have the cages cleaned, it's not a far shot to ask for food. They can see what you do with it, they know it's food.🍽️😆

@UnderLockDown They know the routine. If I don’t clean their cages before dinner Boo-Boo gets worried about it getting done. I think he’s a bit neurotic. When he was a baby he would pick up feathers out of his cage and throw them out onto the floor. He liked it tidy inside of the cage.

sounds like you're spoiling them
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@FurryFace ya think?
Quote the raven, "nevermore."

@Stereoguy I don’t know. I’ve tried to give the parakeets fruit and other things and mostly they just want turnip greens. Some parakeets like to chew on celery or fruit. I might make some dry toast and put it between the bars of their cages and see if they want to try it. I had one female parakeet that would grate it up like breadcrumbs. I don’t know if it was to keep herself busy or if she actually ate any of it. There was a lot on the floor of the cage.
@cherokeepatti Oy vey!
Good luck with that then...😂😂😂
