But tbh, I'd hold off the 'Let me know if you need anything' part unless one really means it and is willing to anything.

I think thanks for informing me is a good way to start the paragraph. Maybe express that your sorry for her pain and offer what help you can afford to give?
Say you're sorry to hear that, you're there for them and hope they get well soon.
