Is it weird when all your friends here mention an apparently popular user and you’re pretty sure you’ve never heard of them?

I retain like one and a half usernames. The rest of you are all floating profile pics

One of the reasons I like this place is the small town vibe, and living in a small town that's absolutely a thing. You think you know everyone and you really don't.

There’s a grill downtown where I live. Everything is slathered in grease, the coffee is so strong it can pour itself, and you can smell the food a mile away. It opens around five am. This is where the old guys go every morning. Everyone knows them, their orders, how they like their coffee, etc. it’s where you hear the best stories, the juiciest gossip, and the loudest laughter. It’s also where, sometimes, there’s some somber moments when one of the regulars have moved on on their path.

It takes a little bit to be welcomed into the fold there. You have to have a thick skin and take some pretty good rubbing before you can sit at the big table. They may give you a few glances from across the room and a smile at first before giving you a brief comment from their conversation. They are feeling you out…seeing if you can handle them. But, if you pass muster and the invite you in? You’re in!

This is how I view SW. A community within a community within a community, etc. Some of us are closer than others and sometimes newbies or those on the fringes join in. That’s what creates the unique dynamic here. There are tons of big round tables all working in unison.

Nowadays we can just blame the feed. 😌

I don't think this community is so little.

And since there are so many variations on what our feeds look like, I suppose it is inevitable that this will happen. I have experienced it as well.

But I think that sometimes it may be a matter of my simply scrolling past posts whose titles do not interest me , and so I might not be noticing those users.

I don't think we see many like we used to here, seems like alot of repeats in the feed.

I had a quick look at who was online the other day and there were swathes of people I'd never seen before, and they were active posters too. With or without custom settings activated I always seem to just see the same people all the time.

Yep I have noticed that too.

There are some people I decide are annoying when they first get here and block before they make a bunch of friends so I'm not surprised

edit: also i miss A LOT of posts in my feed even from people that post multiple times a day so it makes sense

If you want to see other users you must use the "topics" button where all the groups are.

It's as well sorted chronologically.

It's a little weird, but it happened to me multiple times too. (Popular or infamous.)

Happens to me all the time. But then I'm not on here anywhere near as often as I was on EP. 🤷‍♀️
