New AC or not?

Last year my AC BEGAn getting so loud, and someone said check near the grill. Had pink slime! Ughh. They told me to clean it and the loud motor sound should lessen. Its a droning loud sound. I never got to clean it then..Do I try to clean the pink slime, Would it clear this loud sound, or get a new AC? (Its several years old)

The rear coil sometimes gets covered with bull, it is an easy fix.
Pink slime though, what is that and where did it come from would be my question.

Oh to answer the Q - having a tech mess with it would cost more than replacing.

You could unplug the AC, try rinsing out the back coil with a garden hose but let it sit and dry for a few hours before plugging back in and powering on.

BTW in this video, I do not know what he is spraying but when I rinsed mine off I never used anything. So you see where he is spraying that stuff? Just spray with a garden hose with a nozzle attached, do not use a pressure washer.

BTW you do this at your own risk. It usually works fine and helps the AC run at max efficiency

@Oster1 The outside part of that coil, where he is pointing, usually looks clean but inside the unit there is often a bunch of crud on the coils because exhaust air is blown right on it by the fan.

I never used any special cleaner. I figure if the water pressure from a garden nozzle doesn't remove it, special spray ain't gonna help.

@CestManan Apprecoate this Leggs..interesting vid. The pink slime on coils inside is bacteria, I read online. Not harmful to breathe, but you want to get the skime off it says. My dad thinks it wont help the loud motor noise, to het a new one.

No need to replace it. Air Cons need a service every 12 months.
Same as the car. No service? Then things build up to the point of breakdown.

Please listen. Pull it out. Take the cover off. Clean the cover. Take the unit, to car wash and spray, everything out, not denting any fins. It's more involved, but will be, good as new! PM, for questions.

When you are done, you can sell the pink slime to a meat packer to put in their ground beef!
