I’m OK with looking like an assh0le on this one ..
As someone who has been poor, homeless, had to live in that kind of housing, volunteered with a rehousing community, and experiences the joys of watching what building a bunch of rehousing ventures did to my old neighborhood and whole town..
—-hell no...
It makes the crime rate go through the roof in all surrounding areas that are easily accessible by public transportation.
Assault, theft. arson, hard drug sales, addiction numbers and scattered needles, rape, murder, It’s all gone up drastically, and I’ll never have the luxury of being able to drive through it like so many idealists I know who don’t have to navigate it on foot everyday with their kiddo. Kids can’t even go to the park anymore because it’s been taken over by the homeless people who have somewhere to go, but like the park more.
It’s bs that the idealists where I live let it get this bad and I would never want a project like that built near my house.

Homeless people literally live in my "backyard". It's a little space right on the other side of the fence around my back garden area, and it's hidden from street view by a couple of electrical boxes. Homeless people sleep there and keep their belongings there when they have to be away. We keep an eye out (just in case one of those people decides to get ideas about OUR patio), but honestly they mostly just stay to themselves and don't cause trouble. I feel bad for them.

@DearAmbellina2113 Homeless are mostly harmless. I mean when someone is in survival mode, they probably are not going to have the energy to go out and commit crimes. I do understand the concern though.
Most of the homeless camps here are under bridges. I see the situation every day as well.
How would someone even get out of that situation of being homeless?

@DearAmbellina2113 yep, same. There are loads of homeless people around me. Some are dangerous, most are not.

Someone should do something! Someone else. Someone far away from my neighborhood.

@Straylight yeah somewhere where people are poor and the poor have no say
NIMBYs prevent society from moving forward and will also bring it crashing down

No one has been able to come up with a good solution for homelessness. However, what you're absolutely 100% correct here.
When an attempt was made to locate a homeless camp in our neighborhood, on grounds owned by a local reform Synagogue, joined by several churches, the neighborhood blocked it.

I think it would be easier for them to get help if we didn't have these fake homeless people panhandling every street corner of major cities.
Of course usually you can easily tell the difference but it still makes it hard for everyone.

As the Dead Kennedys once sang
The sun beams down on a brand new day,
No more welfare tax to pay,
Unsightly slums gone up in flashing light,
Jobless millions whisked away,
At last we have more room to play,
All systems go to kill the poor tonight...

Oh, absolutely. The shelter where I volunteered has been a mission since the 1930s, and the people who live nearby know what it’s about and accept it. But about 20 years ago some "gentrification" went on and some new folks who wanted to buy property nearby complained. The building is privately owned, has been in that family for generations.
It’s licensed as a shelter, the newbies were told they could buy elsewhere.

My family was homeless once so I'm always concerned about the homeless..

I have no problems whatsoever with the homeless setting up camp in my neighbors yard.

Fact.

That's what pisses me off the most about politicians and people (politicians aren't human). The hypocrisy on homelessness hurts a lot. Don't pretend to care. Actually care, the homeless are people too

@SW-User yeah, it's really depressing how selfish people are
