How to approach someone I wish to be my mentor?

I'm part of a climbing club and I like the personality of one of the club leaders. She is ten years older than me, I really like her personality, she's great with organizing kids activities at the club, and she runs a bio farm with her family. She has two sons and what I observed she is a great mom to them.

I also started participating as a volunteer during the activities we have for children, and I plan to spend some time at a biofarm within a climbing community after my degree, just to have a break after school; both of which was kinda inspired by her.

I would like to be more like her and would like to spend some time with her to learn.
Is that ok and how should I approach her?

Ask her straight up. But make sure she'll truly be a good mentor for you and that she hasn't just impressed you a little bit. Best of luck

Tell her you are struggling and need a mentor
LillyJulia · 26-30, F
@Strict4u I'm not struggling with anything concrete, I would like to grow in general and have more personality traits she has.
Strict4u · 56-60, M
@LillyJulia tell her you want to be more like her and want her to mentor you
Convivial · 26-30, F
I find just asking opens many doors
start by asking her for advice on common topics that interest you both.

be sincere.

after a while, thank her for the advice and tell her that it helped you a lot.

this is just the beginning...

I wouldn't ask directly, I'd just ask questions about specifically how they do stuff

Sounds like she's got quite enough to do as it is without taking on any protégées......
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Tell her what you told us. Tell her you want to be more like her.
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
Ask her to be your mentor.
LillyJulia · 26-30, F
@Quetzalcoatlus I know, but how? Really just come to her and ask directly, Hi, would you be my mentor?
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
@LillyJulia Ya, say you love what she does and you want to learn. Straight to the point always works best..
Heavenlywarrior · 36-40, M
Just be real with her.
rfatoday · 61-69, M
@Heavenlywarrior Yeah, just be honest and real. Perhaps tell her what you like about her attitude, personality, and organizational skills and that you want to know if she'll help you attain your own goals. She might be flattered you'd ask.
