Going to Maui in September 2024

Going to Maui. What are some must dos?
carpediem · 61-69, M
Spend a night in Hana. Take your time driving there so you can check out the waterfalls around every corner. You can find them by making sure you buy this book: Maui Revealed: The Ultimate Guidebook. Climb the path towards the waterfall after you see the sacred pools.

Walk the path from Makena to Kihie. Check out Big Beach. Then climb the lava flow, get naked and enjoy Little Beach. Check out the dolphins at La Perouse Bay.

@Coffeequilt Nude beach. Find Big Beach and look to your right as you look out towards Molokini. Climb over the lava flow and get naked.

I would definitely suggest driving to the North shore and getting shave ice at Matsumoto's.
Kapalua Beach is a nice spot to snorkel with sea turtles but there's others. I think the fire will educate that decision.I don't know what Kapalua is like now. Haleakala, which is at about 10,000 feet, is worth the drive. Really cool. And the road to Hana is eye candy.
But overall, my experience is if you just drive around the island, be SUPER respectful and cool with the locals, you can find yourself in some really awesome areas.I think Kauai is a little more open with visitors but I've had some great experiences on Maui. But it really is all about respect. If people act like entitled tourists then they get treated that way. But if not, locals can be super inviting and warm. Oh... DON'T buy any weed from the dudes on the side of the road don't leave anything in your rental car. :)
Have fun. Getting off the plane and smelling that tropical air is pretty special.

@Ynotisay thanks. I want to see turtles!

@Coffeequilt Right on. It's a thrill. Can't touch them but you can absolutely snorkel around them. Big, beautiful and graceful. It'll blow your mind. :)

Whale watching, snorkling, eating out at the Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa, a restaurant at the Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort in Wailea, Maui, Hawaii, is named after Hawaii's state fish, the humuhumunukunukuapua'a, which translates to "triggerfish with a snout like a pig". The restaurant serves American, seafood, Polynesian, and Hawaiian food, including mahi mahi, lobster, and spicy beef surf and turf. It also offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options.

@Tastyfrzz AWESOME, thank you
Collect the State Quarters for Hawaii... they can be a cute little memento of your trip if you can find them...
Coffeequilt · 51-55, F
@HootyTheNightOwl I hadn't thought about that. That's a fun idea
@Coffeequilt While you're looking through your coins, remember that any silver coins you find pre dating 1964 will have silver in them, too - so you might want to snag yourself some of those if you live outside of the US.
