What were you doing 59 years ago today?

I was a child, and my mother was explaining to me that "a very bad man had hurt our president and everyone was very sad”. Then we saw, on live tv, a man "so angry that he hurt the bad man".

Simple explanations for not so simple times. 🤨

I was in grade school, and we were dismissed early to go home. I remember watching the news for the next few days and seeing Jack Ruby kill Lee Harvey Oswald as he was being transferred. The memory is so vivid that I remember which classroom I was in and which seat I was sitting in.

Here in Sydney,Australia,it was Saturday,November 23,the President was shot at 4.30a.m. our time. - I heard the news at 6.30a.m.as I turned my radio on while lying in bed.I still vividly remember the shocked newsreader ending the bulletin saying : "I repeat,President Kennedy has been assassinated,President Kennedy is dead!" I then went out to the kitchen and told my mother,who was stunned at the news;she then woke my father and told him.

9th grade English class

I was in grade school.
A TV was brought into the classroom so we could follow what was going on.

It is one of those days we, who lived through it, will always remember. I remember being on break in anatomy class, we went to the bookstore for a drink, the manager told us about it. That was before internet, etc., so difficult to check if he was correct. I was in school in anti-JFK country, but, even the devout confederate-bending people said they hated the man, but, weren't happy with his being shot to death.

Even the sperm and egg that made me weren't created yet. Fuck, the woman of the egg I was made frrom didn't even exist yet.

I was debt free, stress free and enjoying true freedom. That was a few years before I was hatched.

I was sitting watching tv with my grandfather, when the news came on. I was too young to really understand the full impact, but my grandfather sat up in his chair, and said something like, “Oh God, there will be war with Russia.” That scared me. My grandad immediately thought it was the Russians back then because it was the Cold War era.

I wasn't alive yet.
