Great, a fuel that is responsible for more than 40% of carbon dioxide emissions on the planet has now been re-branded "clean".

@carpediem To return to the subject of this post and my thread . . I do have a secondary school qualification in chemistry, and I know enough to recognise that burning fossil fuels and starting trade wars go way beyond domestic politics . . hence why I commented.
@SunshineGirl Go burn an Electric Vehicle, like your environmentally conscious comrades. 🤭
carpediem · 61-69, M
@SunshineGirl It’s trade between the US government and its citizens, versus the unfair treatment the world has shown us. The US has a right to apply any tariff it chooses, just like the rest of the world has done against us. If you don’t like it, too bad. 🤷🏻♂
And if you don’t like burning “fossil” fuels, then don’t burn them. It’s so simple. Drive a Tesla if you can find one that isn’t being damaged by domestic terrorists. I don’t understand why all the wacky rhetoric and unwarranted drama.

The US primarily uses anthracite coal for power (by far the "cleanest" coal for burning), and we have massive reserves of it; China on the other hand uses mostly bituminous & lignite coal (dirty coal, high in sulfur)
No energy source is "clean"
This clip from the show Landman is 100% truth...

Stole my thunder! Yep we got endless wind turbines just a few miles from my house and Thornton explains it simply but effectively in this scene. The truth is kryptonite to leftists. It interferes with their virtue signaling tendency and oppressed narrative. Not to mention the brainless cognitive dissonance which is breathtaking. Reminds me of that hypocrite Greta Thunberg who's positioned and marketed perfectly to deliver emotional mini green manifestos - since her parents are professional actors/performers.
Who would've thought we'd have a non compos mentis president and a VP with the IQ and mannerisms of a weasel showboating a pretend presidency that pushed this lie. Trump sure put an unceremonious end to that dog and pony show while getting awesome results in no time.

@wildbill83 Thank you for that answer. I always wondered what "Clean coal" was.
So if we sold our clean coal to China it would be better for the environment, right?
You would think the left would love that, but since it is Trump, they are forced to
hate it.

@DogMan method of burning also affects pollution output; slower, hotter/complete burning whilst not being as productive tends to be cleaner; whereas maximizing energy output (fast and dirty, incomplete burn) is very dirty
It's a common misconception that any high carbon fuel is dirty when burned; while in reality, it can be as clean as natural gas when burned under proper conditions; even waste oil/motor oil (which is about 85% carbon by volume) is completely smokeless when burned hot enough

I will say, though, i toured a few coal mine operations, and I miss seeing those big coal trains and drag lines. But I also miss the smell of IBM typewriter oil, but I don’t suggest bringing them back.

Clean coal? Bit like calling a pasty 'low-fat' because you ate it standing up. Technically possible, but let’s not kid ourselves.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@AlanAPartridge Well, you have to give him something here. During his last presidency, "clean coal" became a thing.

MasterLee · 56-60, M
Not sure if it's about artificial intelligence, computers are pretty energy efficient. Now wanting to make a clean robust MAGA movement looking to do dirty work and not care about emissions is more like it because you know if you are out of work the environment doesn't matter.
But that assumes something, prosperity is found in the ways you once found, clean energy is a burden. An inhospitable earth is worse, but don't worry, you have those looking to colonize other planets. Drill baby drill.

The mega-rich Democrats who want to "save our environment!" don't much care how much they drive energy prices up. Bring back coal!
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Yeah.. We had a flirtation with the idea of clean coal before our last election a few years back.
"The Japanese are working with it" was the cry. Then someone pointed out the actual costs of making the coal clean with special inconerators and filters and it made the electricity more expensive.. This time the same conservative party has the brilliant idea to build nuclear power plants that will take a decade to build, if the technology proved out. And even then, you guiessed it, the power will be more expensive .. America doesnt have a monopoly on Morons..😷

@DogMan I empathise with you here. Both sides of your politics are terminally corrupt. And I fear there is no road back from where you are that doent involve a lot of pain. Its going to be a bumby ride..😷
DogMan · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman It looks like other countries are coming to the table, it should work out.
Hopefully China doesn't release another virus like they did when Trump screwed them last time.
I believe there could be another virus, or an attack on our country. Infrastructure, power grid etc..

@DogMan Its nice to live in one of those legal weed states. The only nation of consequence with any reason to come to the table is Japan. Firsts because it has not finished selling off its $US yet. Second, because the big corporations there draw most of their GNP from production in other countries, including America itself. Most Japanese imports dont actually count as Japanese..😷

Big beautiful clean coal
carpediem · 61-69, M
China has thousands of coal generated power plants. They need coal and lots of it. Guess what one of the major tools Trump will use to solve the trade imbalance with China will be. 🤔
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Need coal to fuel the steel plants so we can build more vehicles, etc
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
@cherokeepatti vehicles that can't be sold outside of the USA because they have 34% tariff on them now

Texas runs on coal fired power plants .

@sunsporter1649 Ah well, if someone on this story wouldn't have the brainpower to understand that there are other ways to generate electricity... it would be you.

I think nuclear is the way to go personally....we are way past days of chernobyll and crazy shit like that

@goneNow6565 sub critical reactors/SMR's pose no risk of meltdown (no need for active cooling), and a 300mw smr would be plenty to power most small to medium sized towns/cities
