Trump is bringing back coal

President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders Tuesday aimed at revitalizing America’s “beautiful clean coal industry”—an objective that stems from his first term and comes amid growing demand for electricity sources to power artificial intelligence data centers.

I can hear the left now. "Trump wants to kill us all with dirty air"

Great, a fuel that is responsible for more than 40% of carbon dioxide emissions on the planet has now been re-branded "clean".

@SunshineGirl Funny... I didn't hear you complaining that China has been building coal plants like crazy. "In 2022, China approved 106 GW of new coal-fired capacity, a significant increase from the previous year, and the equivalent of two new coal plants being permitted each week". They are going to be burning coal. Why is it a problem that they buy that coal from the US rather than other sources?

@SunshineGirl

40% of carbon dioxide emissions on the planet has now been re-branded "clean".
Hey, genius, carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. As a matter of fact, all life would end without it 🤡
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@carpediem You reckon they are going to be buying coal from America? 🤣
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@BizSuitStacy Unsurprising, since their manufacturing output also exceeds those three markets combined. China is also the world's largest producer of hydro-electric power and its manufacturing might has made photo-voltaic and solar panels widely available.

@Thrust It is possible for a chemical to be both . . sodium, potassium and magnesium are essential to the functioning of the human body, but in excess will end human life. Oxygen is likewise essential, but chuck it on a fire and it may become deadly.

@SunshineGirl What you fail to understand, is that Trump suckered them into a trap. They’ll need to eliminate the trade imbalance with the US or face continued high tariffs which will destroy their economy. Coal gives Trump an opportunity to change all that.

You need to open your eyes and look past your Trump hatred to see how the world is changing.

@carpediem China has a highly dependable market for coal in Australia, whose prime minister is less susceptible to breaking trade agreements or calling a valuable trading partner "peasants". They are, in common with much of the rest of the world, transitioning away from coal to renewable sources of electricity and demand will fall further as the Chinese economy grows and manufacturing capacity in the future moves to less developed nations (such as America, perhaps).

Please get it out of your head that I somehow "hate" Trump. I've not even been introduced to the man yet.

@SunshineGirl

So China has enviable pollution standards? Why don't you just put a hammer and sickle for your avi?
@SunshineGirl
Unsurprising, since their manufacturing output also exceeds those three markets combined.

Which doesn't have much to do with the fact that other countries push hard to be carbon neutral to satisfy the greenies, but gives China a pass for not improving their plants, now does it?
@SunshineGirl Yet you environmentally conscious liberals burn and destroy electric vehicles. 😂

@SunshineGirl You still don't understand. First, this coal idea are my personal thoughts. It makes sense. I am sure China has coal deals in place. But you see, Trump has them by the balls. They have to do something to eliminate the trade deficit. Coal makes sense no matter where they currently purchase it. Any other ideas? Call Xi and let him know.

@carpediem How about focusing on commodities that America already exports in abundance (financial and legal services, education, intellectual property) and creating healthy markets in which China might actually be tempted to buy more of those products . .

China does use unfair trade practices, that is universally acknowledged. However, starting a protectionist trade war to "solve" these is not the answer.

How exactly does America have China by the "balls"? China owns billions of dollars of US debt (which is where the argument begins) and could if so inclined reduce this to junk status and push up the cost of federal borrowing to unsustainable levels. That in a nutshell is why Trump retreated this week.

@MasterLee I put forward a positive plan of action that Trump could take rather than continually blaming America's woes on foreigners . .
carpediem · 61-69, M
@SunshineGirl You need to wake up girl. Not a single administration has done anything about China's unfair trade practices, nor their trade imbalance. Now YOU think you've got it solved? LOL... 🤣 Run for president. Trump was elected with a majority and this is the plan. Get with it kid or go cry to someone else.

You think he retreated? He raised the tariff level on them yet again. What nation on earth consumes the most? The US. That is China's market. Correction... was China's market. And it could be yet again but they'll need to rectify the very problems that we are discussing here.

I don't think you have a clue what you're blathering about. 🙄
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@carpediem she can't. She's british know it all.
carpediem · 61-69, M
@MasterLee That answers many questions. We all know the Brits know everything. And certainly everything related to American life and politics. They're experts. 🤣
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@carpediem To return to the subject of this post and my thread . . I do have a secondary school qualification in chemistry, and I know enough to recognise that burning fossil fuels and starting trade wars go way beyond domestic politics . . hence why I commented.
@SunshineGirl Go burn an Electric Vehicle, like your environmentally conscious comrades. 🤭
carpediem · 61-69, M
@SunshineGirl It’s trade between the US government and its citizens, versus the unfair treatment the world has shown us. The US has a right to apply any tariff it chooses, just like the rest of the world has done against us. If you don’t like it, too bad. 🤷🏻‍♂

And if you don’t like burning “fossil” fuels, then don’t burn them. It’s so simple. Drive a Tesla if you can find one that isn’t being damaged by domestic terrorists. I don’t understand why all the wacky rhetoric and unwarranted drama.
