Whay will happen, when States run their own schools?

I think it will be much better. It will create competition, which always helps.

It will show what works, and what doesn't. Instead of doing that same thing
over and over, expecting different results.

The terms "National Education Association" and "teaching" are synonymous with one another. The National Education Association is the most popular teacher's union in the United States, but they are also the most scrutinized. Their primary goal is to protect teacher rights and to ensure that their members are getting treated fairly. The NEA has arguably done more for teachers and public education than any other advocacy group in the United States. Get an overview of the National Education Association, including a brief history and what they stand for.

So the NEA collects around 500 million per year, in order to protect teachers rights?
What does that mean?
Corporalcolleague · 61-69, M
@DogMan besides administrative costs, they pay lobbyists, have offices and staff, they provide training and legal representation for their members when their contract and due process rights are being violated, to name a few.

States already do run their own schools. There is no national curriculum directing what must be taught or how. There are national standards but it is up to each state to either adopt, modify, or reject those standards. The department of Ed basically coordinates the allocation of federal funds for school nutrition, special education, and other programs that benefit students who need special considerations.

@DogMan the NEA is one of the two major unions supporting public educators ( the other being the AFT). Do "we" need the NEA...nope..but their members need the support, advocacy, and lobbying they do to get the federal funds allocated to the students, schools, and states whom they serve. I may be wrong but i don't think any taxpayer dollars goes to support this organization except the dues which they collect from their members. The reason the NEA seems to be in the cross hairs of MAGA ire is when they support candidates which tend to be less conservative.

@Corporalcolleague EXCLUSIVE — The National Education Association, the country’s largest teachers union, spent more than twice as much money on politics-related expenditures than on its membership, an analysis of the union’s filings shows
Corporalcolleague · 61-69, M
@DogMan oh i am sure but as a former member i guess i would want to know what constitutes a politics-related expenditure outside of lobbying Congress. I am very aware that the NEA is a very powerful union and likely why most politicians who run afoul of their agenda would like to see them go away.

I think you'll see red states performing leaps and bounds over blue states. A good comparison will be to compare the financial condition of red versus blue states. You can expect the schools to perform in about the same fashion.

States do run the schools.
They will lose Federal funding.

Cant wait for those red states to 'improve' their schools on their own.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@JSul3 I would love to make a wager with you on which kids will get a better education.

Blue states, will teach more about DEI, along with gay and trans issues, while Red states will
teach what they actually NEED to know.
JSul3 · 70-79
@DogMan Need to know? Like the bible and 10 Commandments?

The scam of school choice/vouchers is the $$$ is not enough to cover tuition and books for any length of time, but it will subsidize the wealthy, who already send their kids tp private/religious ....oh and for those kids in tne rural areas, how will this help them? Do the rise at 3 am and ride a bus to the city where this private school sits?

Now that the Department of Education is being dismantled you will see what happens!
Corporalcolleague · 61-69, M
@Strictmichael75 the Trump team will soon find that their attempts to dismantle/shut down the Department of Education, while it was a campaign promise, will not survive the inevitable court challenges. At that point Trump will blame the court, specifically the judge, and then continue the appeals until the Supreme Court, which will be that time be exhausted by him, and will refuse to hear the case.

The DOE contributes nothing to the education system. Just a bunch of overpaid bureaucrats
