Whay will happen, when States run their own schools?

I think it will be much better. It will create competition, which always helps.

It will show what works, and what doesn't. Instead of doing that same thing
over and over, expecting different results.

The terms "National Education Association" and "teaching" are synonymous with one another. The National Education Association is the most popular teacher's union in the United States, but they are also the most scrutinized. Their primary goal is to protect teacher rights and to ensure that their members are getting treated fairly. The NEA has arguably done more for teachers and public education than any other advocacy group in the United States. Get an overview of the National Education Association, including a brief history and what they stand for.

So the NEA collects around 500 million per year, in order to protect teachers rights?
What does that mean?

@DogMan That means screw the kids and we are ALL going to stay home and teach via computer if there is another pandemic.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@Corporalcolleague So, will the lobbyists money now go back for the kids?
Corporalcolleague · 61-69, M
@fanuc2013 great idea but the lobbyists must be paid

I think you'll see red states performing leaps and bounds over blue states. A good comparison will be to compare the financial condition of red versus blue states. You can expect the schools to perform in about the same fashion.

@Strictmichael75 The Clark County school district in southern Nevada is the 5th largest in the country.

Highest cost per student, but is ranked 48th. We are also a Blue State, with a very Blue school board.
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
@DogMan seeing the low level of education in the US 10 times zero is still zero
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Strictmichael75 I hear ya. But we have learned that throwing money at it doesn't work, so
it sounds like we need a top-down revamp.

States already do run their own schools. There is no national curriculum directing what must be taught or how. There are national standards but it is up to each state to either adopt, modify, or reject those standards. The department of Ed basically coordinates the allocation of federal funds for school nutrition, special education, and other programs that benefit students who need special considerations.
Corporalcolleague · 61-69, M
@DogMan oh i am sure but as a former member i guess i would want to know what constitutes a politics-related expenditure outside of lobbying Congress. I am very aware that the NEA is a very powerful union and likely why most politicians who run afoul of their agenda would like to see them go away.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
@Corporalcolleague I have to disagree, The "California Standard" is what our local school board says they must follow
Corporalcolleague · 61-69, M
@fanuc2013 which would be a state mandate to the local districts in California, not from the federal government.
JSul3 · 70-79
States do run the schools.
They will lose Federal funding.

Cant wait for those red states to 'improve' their schools on their own.
JSul3 · 70-79
@DogMan I am against them being displayed in gov. buildings and public schools.

You "righties" may want to review Jesus' Sermon on the Mount.
DogMan · 61-69, M
@JSul3 So you think the commandments are harmful? That would be sick, to think that.

How about the Desiderata?
JSul3 · 70-79
@DogMan Actually those 10 Commandments are not the originals.
You know that, right?
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
Now that the Department of Education is being dismantled you will see what happens!
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
@DogMan Same old song

The DOE contributes nothing to the education system. Just a bunch of overpaid bureaucrats
