Here you go Brits. Home fuel bills up £100

Ofgem, the body that supposedly regulates the privatised energy industry in the UK has just announced that winter fuel bills are rising by around £100.

Due to the rise in wholesale energy prices.

So all that guff yesterday by the Chancellor and the Prime Minister patting themselves on the back for not cutting pensions or benefits despite the 'tough economic outlook' was probably because they knew this was coming

Most of the British public just lacks the get-up-and-go attitude to make sure they are born or marry into wealth. Got no sympathy. 🧐

@littlemissdani Were you born into wealth or are you planning on marrying for money?
@littlemissdani Pearl? Is that you?
They should put the energy companies in public hands and invest more in renewable energy.

@BritishFailedAesthetic Energy de-regulation is probably THE straw that 'broke the Camel's back' for many of us 'Gen.-Xers' with regard to supporting the Conservative party.
It's never worked as they told us it should but they keep saying the same thing in support of it.
this makes me quite curious and gives me all sorts of questions, so none of this is aimed to be confrontational or disparaging, it's all genuine 'I don't know how this would be there' - when you say up 100 pounds, what's that in a percentage term? and over the winter, you mean the 3-4 months for the whole season or per month?

it sucks to have price increases anytime, I'm just trying to understand how big this is, I guess.

@stound Current average household bill is £1834 per year going up to £1928.
A rise of £94 or 5%.

Analysts are predicting a drop in prices by March.
More down to the fact it will be spring; warmer weather; those with solar panels start getting better returns than through the winter months.....before anything to do with a cut in either inflation or 'wholesale pricing'
Rishi has finance background, he must know what’s coming
@Picklebobble2 what was the statement
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@mysteryespresso It's what's called The Autumn Statement from The Treasury.
A sort of State of the nation's finances and what the government intends to fund/cut to try and balance the budget.
@Picklebobble2 I think he has a good heart. It’s just that saying truth is too uncomfortable. Not many politicians are known for speaking without a filter like trump and trump is hated by both conservatives and liberals for this reason.
Unrelated question why is there severe lack of politicians in the uk?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@mysteryespresso Oh believe me there are plenty Politicians.
650 of them !
Trouble is few of them have a clue what to do if in government and how to deal with what's happening in the country.

@jshm2 Nobody's shocked. It's a question of timing and political grandstanding the day BEFORE that price increase was announced
