China's government is practicing Confucianism. Why is this a threat?

US foreign policy regards China as a threat to world order based on liberal democracy. American military bases and troops are positioned in South Korea, Japan, and Philippines to confront and contain China. Do we have a right to force China to abandon Confucianism? Why do our foreign policy experts view Confucianism as harmful to humanity?

I have no idea what you are talking about, nobody cares that China practices Confucianism.

The West views China as a threat because they are a legitimate economical, military and nuclear power and they are threatening us and our allies over the South China Sea and Taiwan.

Gotcha. So its personal anecdotes and conversations you had with like minded individuals during your travels abroad.

Like-minded? Those are American businessmen, not guys on social media targeted by the communications scientists working for the State Department and intelligence services. When you run a business in China, you work for yourself, and you have your own skin in the game. Do you see Elon Musk or Warren Buffet bad-mouthing China's government? They don't even care if the American manufacturing sector is hollowed out. We are a free market economy and we practice capitalism. Right? There is no affirmative action in a merit based balanced playing field. Americans should practice what we preach at home and abroad. We don't. We practice hypocrisy. In doing so, we are destroying American society and making an ass of ourselves on the world stage.

There is ALWAYS some threat to American exceptionalism. I wish we did a better job managing all this.

American exceptionalism. There is truth to this. It is stunning when I see American brinkmanship in action. The Neil Armstrong moon landing in 1961. It was 63 years ago before you were born! Then there was the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis engineered by Barney Frank that nearly took down the world. No other people except us are so unfettered in reaching for the stars. Bernie Madoff was stunning.

There is no threat to American exceptionalism. Not even close. We are a strange breed. There is no way China can compete with us in that regard. There are only plodders out there. We seem to have lost our moho.

@sree251 So point of clarity..the moon landing was 1969. And thanks again for your thoughts.

You think they view China as a threat because of Confucianism?
Richard65 · M
@sree251 okay, you've aired your completely ludicrous view of China, and it's clear there's little point in debating with someone like yourself, who reads reams of information, only to demonstrate a complete lack of understanding of reality.
Good luck.

@Richard65 Hey, thanks for the conversation. I wished we had bantered a bit about Confucianism.

As for Confucianism, I recommend you look up the former Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo’s remarks on China’s inroads into the U.S. and how he viewed Confucius schools in this country.

You view China through the eyes of Mike Pompeo?
Morvoren · F
I’m fairly certain it’s their military expansionism, tyrannical treatment of its citizens and its cyber activity undermining the security of other countries that had cause ire, not its spirituality.
Morvoren · F
@sree251 It makes about as much as any other religion.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Morvoren What? Confucianism is not a religion. It's philosophy.
Morvoren · F
@sree251 Whatever.

Our bases are not there to confront and contain China . They have been there since China was a 3rd world peasant nation posing zero threat .
sree251 · 41-45, M
@AthrillatheHunt What else do you believe? This is a philosophy thread with the focus on applied Confucianism in government. It requires you to be informed of facts and the ability to reflect on application of the philosophy.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
@sree251 I believe it was bill Clinton who gave China permanent most favored nation trade status. This was after a senate committee hearing where we determined we will never understand the Chinese way of thinking .

Why are there no philosophers in the US Government? The following are our US Presidents' educational background:

1. Joe Biden studied law
2. Trump studied business.
3. Obama studied law
4. Bush W studied history
5. Bill Clinton studied law

Can any of them think?

China backs Russia and the USA suspects it also supports it militarily. Hence why the world has been unable to stop the Russian advance in Ukraine.

China views the world as a global family of nations. The US sees itself as the leader of a gang of thugs: the Don of the Mafia.

Russia and China are viewed as capos or lieutenants that are threats to the godfather (i.e. US) of the crime family. The US is planning a war to take out Russia and China. It's all in the movie, The Godfather, starring Al Pacino.

Confucianism is what the Chinese government has defined as socialism based on Chinese characteristics. Socialism, to the western mind, is regarded as communism, a Marxist theory.
Bumbles · 56-60, M
Only if they get really good at it.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Bumbles Good at what, Bumbles?
Nobody thinks China is threatening the USA with philosophy.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Roundandroundwego Confucianism is powerful medicine, much more effective than democracy.
Unlearn · 41-45, M
US gives democracy a bad name...
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@sree251 hope it helps
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Unlearn Yes, it does. You are right up there with our US Presidents in terms of thinking power. Is that why we give democracy a bad name?
