Maybe not, but at the same time maybe the axis could've collapsed under the weight of its own government system in the medium-long term. Either due to corruption, in-fighting, succession, and/or the resistance movements gaining more and more momentum resulting in a civil war.

@Gibbon The Japanese were about to surrender anyways. The bombs were dropped to keep the Soviet Union from invading the defeated Japan.

@Gibbon They served their purpose but their purpose wasn't to defeat Japan. Japan was days away from surrendering as it was.

In Europe America's greatest contribution was arms and vehicles. The US's contribution of fighting men was not nearly as important. The Soviet Union won the war.

@Gibbon If you noticed I mentioned the war in Europe not the war in the Pacific.

Germany was too much for the UK to handle on its own. When the US entered, Germany was in over it head, taking on the US, UK and Canada to the west and Russia to the east.

@Gibbon I have never mentioned the Japanese except to explain that Japan was a defeated nation by the time the US dropped the bombs. How did Japan lose? The US played the dominant role in that theatre of conflict but the Soviets, British and Aussies also played a role. The European conflict was won by the Soviet Union with the help of British, Canadians and Americans. The greatest role the US played in both conflicts was its ability to manufacture material needed for the war. Sadly the US has lost that capacity and thus is losing badly in Ukraine and Israel.

@SW-User nobody can deny europe was just holding own against the nazis and asia was coming under japanese control so no the war would of dragged on longer i would think no . it took two nuclear bombs dropped by our american allies too halt the japanese 🤔the question is though if pearl harbour had not happened would the americans of military stayed out

Russia won that war for the world. Something we love to forget.
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
If the US was completely neutral/passive, there would be no need for Japan/Germany to plan around dealing with US involvement. The UK wouldn't have been propped up by the US and all this means even more resources could've been thrown towards the USSR which came extremely close to falling already.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Maybe not. The US had a major impact on destroying Germany's war machine and infrastructure, from Norway to North Africa. Also a major force on destroying the Nazi and Japanese navies.
By the end of the war, 3.5 million Germans were in US or British prisons. and not available to slow or stop the Soviet progress westward.

Probably. Russia was the deciding player not the US.

In Europe, probably, since the Soviets probably would have earned the right to take as much credit as they have. I don't know what would have stopped the Japanese though

I wonder if we’d have gotten involved had we not also been fighting the Japanese. I like to think we would’ve, but given the social climate here then, I’m really not sure.

People saying Russia was the deciding factor are ignorant. Both the US and Russia were the deciding factor. If either one was out of the equation it would have been done game.
tenente · 36-40, M
i'm going to say yes, with Russia deciding the war
