@Dez580 every town's history is more complicated than two lines. One can only state the pertinent facts in such a short summary.

@MandyMitchell and do not forget the Norsemen and Danes,
MandyMitchell · 80-89, F
@Dez580 Or the Reivers and mercenaries. So much history in this stolen little town.

Is it true that Berwick upon Tweed didn't sign the peace treaty at the end of the Crimean War and is therefore technically still at war with Russia?

[@mandymitchell ] 🤫funny in a sense you say protect the towns from pesky scots yet today in the twentieth century berwick play in the scottish lowland football league lol 🤷♂️work that one out
MandyMitchell · 80-89, F
@smiler2012 Berwick was a Scottish town until we grabbed it. Berwick Rangers play in the Scottish Football League-their best day was when they beat the mighty Glasgow Rangers, many years ago. It's a lovely little town.

Small point of order.. Its "Rebellious Scots".. It says so in the British national anthem"😷
MandyMitchell · 80-89, F
@whowasthatmaskedman It does - so no wonder the Scots don't sing it

Now is Berwick in Scotland or England now..I'm sure there was a time when it was one or the other due to a change in border's!?
MandyMitchell · 80-89, F
@HotPizza71 It has been English since we stole it from the Scots in the fifteenth century. It's the most northerly English town.
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
@MandyMitchell I remember my grandad driving me through there as a kid...Typical Brits,eh, knicking what's not ours!!
MandyMitchell · 80-89, F
@HotPizza71 Both are in Britain - Scotland and England both part of Great Britain - but agree with you- typical.
