So if she weren't a well known person's mother, would the Guthrie case be getting so much attention??

Sometimes certain cases with unknown people come up too, but I think most do not receive this kind of notoriety.

I understand the need to alert the public to try to gain leads...but I don't get the fascination. But news does sell...so people are making money from this.

@fun4us2b Exactly
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
sadly, probably not, but that doesn't prevent us from feeling empathy for the family!
Tumbleweed · F
@samueltyler2 My point is, everybody is important to somebody but they get little, if any attention if someone famous isn't involved.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Tumbleweed That is always the case, every day, everywhere. It is just the same as when famous, powerful people commit crimes, they tend to be able to avoid many consequences.
Northwest · M
The flip side, is that if she's not rich and famous, she's less likely to get kidnapped for ransom.

In any case, there's something funky about the whole thing.

Hope she's found and she's safe and sound.

@Northwest

So your saying regular people don't get taken ??????
Are you aware of how many people go missing each day ??????

Approximately 600,000people are reported missing in the United States annually, according to data often cited from theNamUs (.gov)and FBI database. While the majority of these cases—nearly 98% of children—are resolved quickly, thousands of individuals, both adults and children, remain missing for extended periods.

Idk. I just think it is real sad. But i would think the same about anyone's mother.
Tumbleweed · F
@lissah It really is a terrible thing. If it were my mother, I'd be a basket case.
bookerdana · M
Obviously not but if I were the family I'd do everything possible to find the missing mom
Highly doubtful. If Betty from down the street were missing, five hundred cops wouldn’t be working on the case and it wouldn’t be on eight different channels on TV.

@MayorOfCrushtown I think it’s a major distraction.
@cherokeepatti a very timely major distraction. imagine what other breaking stories would be getting way more attention if it werent for this story.
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Been wondering the same
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
If she weren't a well-known person's mother, the case would never have happened in the first place.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@DunningKruger You are not really going to blame the victum are you!?
Tumbleweed · F
@Nitedoc No, that's not what he means
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@Tumbleweed Guess I don't see that.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Absolutley not!
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Perhaps not.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
nope it would be an episode on 20 20
Likestoenjoylife · 51-55, M
Probably not but but its so weird
pdockal · 56-60, M
Probably not
Unfortunately celebrity gets power
The rest of us ..... 🤷
pdockal · 56-60, M
@Tumbleweed

Don't listen
I barely aware of the situation
Unfortunately it's ALWAYS been that way and ALWAYS will be that way
Tumbleweed · F
@pdockal I don't when I'm home but when I'm at a client's, I can't tell them turn that shit off!

The only Guthrie I ever heard of was Janet, before the kidnapping
Tumbleweed · F
@sunsporter1649 I never paid much attention to Savannah Guthrie to start with, just another journalist to me but now she's a sensation ffs
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
No .. and very telling of a slow news cycle
twiigss · M
Of course not. In this country if you want to be recognized you need to be a film star, a rich CEO, or in the government. The only other way you would be really famous is if you committed some crazy crime that drew the ire of public and media attention.
SpectralMourning · 41-45, M
Of course not. It'd barely be a 5 second blurb in the local town news.
Nobody talking about mass fraud and stealing elections.
Or how we’re ruled by Satan worshipping baby eaters..

It’s a nice big shiny object
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
Yes kidnapping someone's mother for ransom is a story the news loves
