Medication only deals with the symptoms. And rarely deal with the causing problems.

So many times, as well, the medications have worse side effects, than what the initial problem is.

So, of course, medications are over prescribed.

If anything says that it "may" cause death, is that really a side effect that anyone should take? Especially since it only deals with the symptoms and not the actual problem?🤷🏻‍♂

Good question. And I would say extraordinarily over-medicated. It starts with kids and it continues through adulthood. It's a perfectly American trait. We use band aids on issues instead of going to the root cause. And I think it's almost become a badge of honor to some young people. Especially around mental health stuff.
I've long thought that we need to get to a mind over body place. But it's so ingrained, and pills are so readily prescribed, that once they're in there then it's about taking another pill to counteract the side effects.
Some people really need them. But I don't think most do. I've taken one pain pill after some dental work and that was it for me. I'll suck up the pain and let my body heal itself. Because it will. Changing our environment, food, exercise habits and all the rest are far more beneficial than a pill in my opinion.

I think everywhere is over medicated. Whilst some people absolutely need proper medical treatment lots of people are lazy and want a quick fix and it suits big pharma because it's a multi-billion dollar industry. Nature has so much to offer so I look there first. Essential oils have so many different medicinal qualities. Tea tree oil and lavender should be in everyone's first aid box.
over medicated.
we reach for a pill. when a good walk out doors can change things
i DO believe in some use of pharmaceuticals, but with guidance and caution

I would not take meds unless necessary. Some meds are lifesavers. I take nutraceuticals for my fatigue..doing better on them than off. So, it depends…

Over medicated, though it's not a binary issue.

It's probably more over medicated as a symptom, rather than a trigger.

Over-medicated in most cases. Too much profit in it, and not just for Big Pharma. Fee-for-service, for-profit health care providers have too much financial incentive to over-prescribe as well, and allowing Big Pharma to advertise prescription drugs directly to consumers to put pressure on their doctors was a huge mistake.
Health doesn't come from pills, alone.
We know what would lead to better health. Americans voted no! They do understand! Conservative values beat them down for good! There's no alternative!
Well considering our food is banned in other countries worldwide I would admit that we're over-medicated.

The medical establishment is driven by pharmaceutical companies. Doctors tend to treat symptoms because in doing so, lots of $$ is spent. People have been convinced that health care consists of a series of injections and pills. Trust the science because that's where the $$ is.

Is it different in the rest of the Western countries?

Painkillers are now hard to get, the opioid crisis of the 00's has made docs too leery to prescribe them unless your pain is a proven 9/10 out of 10. I know, I had a ruptured ear drum last year that the nurse practitioners at urgent care misdiagnosed, three times in a month and a half time frame, and when it was officially diagnosed thanksgiving night last year, THEY STILL REFUSED TO GIVE ME PAIN MEDS, it felt like an ice pick was digging into my left ear and jaw.
