@CopperCicada
You just compared it to "cardiovascular disease", hiw that a form of "scales of risk"? I don't know, but this makes no sense. These are two diffrent issues. And people that die from cardio vascular disease, don't really take a classroom with them to the grave. Or just increases the death tole of violent crime. And it's pretty clear that measures can be taken to reduce the issue, considering that a lot of countries have actively reduced the risk of dieing by a gun. Because you can actually compare similair issues that countries have with eachother and figure out if you are doing well in this departmen. Of course, if you are just going to start comparing it with cherrie picked data of issues that look nothing alike the numbers of gun deaths... well yeah, I really don't know what to say to this.
And yes, you have a lot of fear mongering over there, but so do other countries. But those other countries, haven't developed a fetish for guns over the years. And when adressed with the problem in the past, they just looked to other examples and learned from them. Which is apperently a really hard thing to do over there.
And yes, there are other issues in every country too. Here too you can start comparing and researching the issue and figure out a path to diminish certain issues. But the first thing people need to do is understand that there is an issue. That's pretty much what we do with all our problems, that's why at some point the seatbelt spilled over to a lot of diffrent places in the world. To everyones benefit btw.
Back to guns. It’s not that I’m arguing not doing anything. I’m just arguing scales of risk because I think exaggerating that is part of the problem.

@CopperCicada Man... Again, that comparisson to other issues makes no sense, when other countries are doing so much better. If you are living in a country that is somewhere within a barrier that is acceptable within this particulair issue, you can use that argument when people want to invoke the illusion that there is a way to reach the utopia of absolute zero. But the United States is way out there. A lot of countries don't experience this issue in this volume, those countries loose less citizens and don't have to militarise their police force to the amount that the US needs too. Pretending that this issue, that clearly has better sollutions cause other countries are proving it, just needs to be compared with cardio vasculair to give some sense that it's not all that bad, is really bizar to me.
And I don't know about the US, but we are trying to minimize car accidents here too. There are actions taken in the hope to battle cardio vasculair disease. All these things are discussable and if there are good policies to implement, then try to push for them. Espescially, if it's a serious issue in comparisson to other countries. If other countries found sollutions, then learn and implement, but don't just rationalise it away by creating the illusion that "well it's bad, but it's actually okay because of [enter randomy cherry picked reason]".
If you see a school being shoot up, if you have heavy armed criminality in your neighbourhood, etc... you would freak the fuck out too. I don't know where you live or if you send your kids to school. Cause having Bob from the block shoot some random person up feels more threatening then Bob dieing of a bad diet.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout You guys have been spreading fake "gun confiscation" rumors ever since Reagan backed the Brady bill. Maybe it's time to get some new material??

🤦♂️ Right, because a bunch of wannabe Rambos will solve everything. Nevermind that has never been the case going all the way back to Columbine.
The Uvalde police fucked up but that doesn't make an idiot who watched a bunch of action movies and poses in a plate carrier on Instagram will be a hero.
This is nonsense.

@GerOttman I find that hard to believe given the fact you think action movies are real life. For one I don't think you could pass a psych eval with attitudes like that.
Nice attempt to change the subject though. Whether I have or not is irrelevant.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow you really are a weaselly dick licker, aren't you? Let's talk about THAT!!

@GerOttman How childish.

Yes defend yourself and those around you when you can. Just like that Good Samaritan did in Greenwood, Indiana at the Greenwood Park Mall on Sunday evening. Indiana is a Constitutional Carry State. The GS shot and killed the Shooter who opened fire on people at the Food Court in the Mall.

@dakotaviper it happens, doesn't get as much air play, but it happens!

@GerOttman Not funny at all. You are just a very very confused individual.
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow so you are not 'trying' to funny. you're ignorance of the 2nd amendment is genuine? and I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt!
PicturesOfABetterTomorrow · 41-45, M
@GerOttman Lol. You accusing anyone else of being ignorant about the 2nd amendment is comical. You have proven conclusively your understanding (and I use that word charitably) ends at NRA talking points.

Home invasions aren't that rare in the US. A burglary happens every 15 seconds. Break ins occur every 26 seconds. Per FBI crime data. In 2019, the FBI reported 1,117,696 burglaries. However there are typically 2 - 2.5 million burglaries each year. A home invasion is forced entry while the resident(s) is/are home. Data is less concise, but somewhere between 27% - 66% of forced entries are categorized as home invasions. That means the number of home invasions annually is somewhere between 310,000 and 1.65 million.
Two things to consider...the typical home invasion is involves 3 intruders in your home, and they are usually armed. 26% of home invasions result in injury or death to the resident(s). Earlier this week, 4 armed intruders broke into a home around 2 am just a few miles from my home. A boy living there was shot 5 times and is in critical condition.
Once they are inside your home, you have seconds to respond. If you choose to defend yourself with a firearm, you better be prepared for the possibility of multiple attackers. This shit about "you don't need more than 10 rounds" is pure garbage. No one can predict the number of rounds necessary in a gunfight. Better to have them and not need them.
An AR-15 is an excellent choice for home defense.

It’s interesting.
We put every homicide and gun related crime on the TV and people are compelled, even encouraged, to get guns and defend themselves.
In truth, homicide death rate is about 7.5 in 100,000. By firearms 6 in 100,000.
And in truth the firearm suicide rate is about 7 in 100,000. All suicides it’s about 14 in 100,000.
I’m 2X as likely to kill myself as get killed by somebody. As likely to kill myself with a gun as get murdered by one.

@CopperCicada I tend to think it's wise to focus on more serious risks like heart disease, buuut I'm not super concerned about the suicide thing since that's my choice and all...
CopperCicada · M
@BlueVeins Well. That's right. CVD deaths are about 140 per 100,000.

Problem is with that particular Governor, being that most of the victims were of Latin American background, the police feared they would anger Abbot, vote blue.

Irony: the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.
I wish you understood what it meant.
If 376 armed cops could not do the job, why do you believe you can?
