Up here in Canada, if you go on a road trip and stop at a Rest Area.. the small kind that only have outhouses, and you walk into the woods, not only do you get swarmed by bugs, mosquitoes, biting flies etc.. but you will also find bones.. lots and lots of bones from road kill and what is left after the scavengers eat them. I think that is a good reason not to go into the woods. Things may be slightly more tame where you live.
@JamesBugman Actually on my run today I heard a crashing in the woods beside me and a healthy large coyote sprinted across the path behind me. I however could never live in the city.
i have owend beagles most of my life.there is one siting next to me now.a tri color male a year and a half old.i have had 2 german shot haird pointers and i cant even remember how many beagles.great hunting dogs and fantastic pets
That's pretty logical. A person who doesn't know the woods isn't familiar with the sounds that suggest danger. They don't have the experience. Even if you go to your local woods, you should be careful when going to the woods at other place because you don't know it there and don't know what to watch out for.
@bioluminescent Not even if you hear shooting and accidentally stray off to shady looking streets? I feel much more scared in some parts of cities than I ever was in any woods.
Most city dwellers I know have lost their connection with nature. Once that connection is lost then it’s the fear of the unknown. We bring the connection with us as we venture into the city.
probably because there are know streets with signs.i have hunted the big woods of maine new hampshire and vt. secret buy a compass learn how to use it and believe it even if it seams wrong.you will find your way out as long as you dont drop it
It's something they don't truly know about due to not experiencing it.. Their imaginations scare them plus all the tv shows they have probably watched.
@bioluminescent It is the Critters one has to be wary of. They are the unexplained noises one hears when in the woods. The unknown noises that send our imagination into overdrive. Never want to come across a Bunyip Most afeared Aussie Critter there is.
