Why are people from cities so scared of going into the woods?

Baffles me😑
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M Best Comment
Because they are not familiar with possible sources of danger in an unfamiliar environment. Plus they might have watched DELIVERANCE or COCAINE BEAR.
Beautyinbroken · 36-40, F
@ChipmunkErnie Deliverance 🤣🤣🤣banjos sounds
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Beautyinbroken "Squeal like a pig"?

They are not used to being alone, without people around

Cool image

I'm not afraid of it though is the difference I'm seeing in the two perspectives. I know people who are terrified of the woods not just dislike

@WowwGirl Happy New Year, whether you’re in the city or the woods 🥂
A lot of people feel uncomfortable out of an uncontrolled environment.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@robingoodfellow fair enough
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
Most city dwellers I know have lost their connection with nature. Once that connection is lost then it’s the fear of the unknown. We bring the connection with us as we venture into the city.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@SageWanderer interesting
Magenta · F
It's something they don't truly know about due to not experiencing it.. Their imaginations scare them plus all the tv shows they have probably watched.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@Magenta a lot of the fear seems movie or tv related

Up here in Canada, if you go on a road trip and stop at a Rest Area.. the small kind that only have outhouses, and you walk into the woods, not only do you get swarmed by bugs, mosquitoes, biting flies etc.. but you will also find bones.. lots and lots of bones from road kill and what is left after the scavengers eat them.
I think that is a good reason not to go into the woods.
Things may be slightly more tame where you live.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@JamesBugman Actually on my run today I heard a crashing in the woods beside me and a healthy large coyote sprinted across the path behind me. I however could never live in the city.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@JamesBugman yes probably you guys have some big animals
Beautyinbroken · 36-40, F
Imma country girl an would never live in the city but definitely not cause im afraid of it
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@Beautyinbroken friend ..
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
That's pretty logical. A person who doesn't know the woods isn't familiar with the sounds that suggest danger. They don't have the experience. Even if you go to your local woods, you should be careful when going to the woods at other place because you don't know it there and don't know what to watch out for.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@CrazyMusicLover Then why am I not afraid of large cities? If that's the case
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@WowwGirl Not even if you hear shooting and accidentally stray off to shady looking streets? I feel much more scared in some parts of cities than I ever was in any woods.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@CrazyMusicLover I feel the same way thank u
Certain parts of some cities make me more uneasy than any forest

AgentOfChaos · 36-40, M
I've seen the documentary Wrong Turn a million times already. I'm not going anywhere near the woods.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@AgentOfChaos I would take you.Those are just movies
Gusman · 61-69, M
Scorpions
Bats
Spiders/Webs
Noises
Critters
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@Gusman you said critters I think you've been in the woods before
Gusman · 61-69, M
@WowwGirl It is the Critters one has to be wary of.
They are the unexplained noises one hears when in the woods. The unknown noises that send our imagination into overdrive.
Never want to come across a Bunyip
Most afeared Aussie Critter there is.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@Gusman I'll be on the lookout
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
I don't get it. I'm much more cautious in the concrete jungle than way out in the woods.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@Nitedoc totally
eyeno · M
This song didn't help me any while growing up.

chasingThursday · 36-40, M
That’s funny because I’m scared of going in the city lol
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@chasingThursday I know right
Jessmari · 41-45
IDK. It's a peaceful place to go to clear your head. Maybe just a fear of the unknown?
Same reason I'm intimidated to go into a city. Different monsters.
scooogy · 31-35, MVIP
With that pic I have a reason now 🙋🏻‍♂
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@scooogy see u there
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
Because the woods have eyes
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
For many, it’s unfamiliar territory.
Comparable to the way my country cousins stress out around city noise, while I can tune it out.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
It's true I've seen people like that.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
I can never get a answer on this.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
weirdos 🤷🏻
Quimliqer · 70-79, M

I live for the woods
