Yike! Scary! 😯
@cherokeepatti Looks like the KC area dodged that one. But just a few weeks ago had similar with wind strong enough to topple some pretty big trees. I have a pretty big pin oak tree close enough to crush the house if uprooted and am seriously considering finding a tree expert to assess the risk.

A familiar sight and sound in the heartlands is a power transformer's high-pitch "hummmmmm" and it's blue-purple glow. Then the lights go out.

I hope no one was hurt.

@Heartlander Haven’t heard of any injuries. But there are residents still without power. The Red Cross opened up a cooling center for anyone who needs it. Oklahoma also had a Derecho storm 2 weeks ago that did a lot of damages, strong enough to blow a huge number cars off of railroad tracks in one place and took the roofs off of several buildings.

@Heartlander A horse died that was being held at a training facility. There were other horses that survived. So far the city is estimating a million dollars in losses, probably more than that.

WOW!!! Looks like the wrath of God, doesn't it?

@cherokeepatti Russian olive trees, mostly. They grow naturally along the side of the North Platte river, and there is ONE lake...Minatare, up north...which is also surrounded by Russian olives.

ALL farmers plant trees around their property, and they use the Tri-State to water their lawns and keep their fruit trees alive by FLOODING. They open up the dam stops with permission from the Tri-state company once or twice a year.

@4meAndyou yes we lived in an area where every farm had a windbreak around it, south of Grand Island.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti The a-hole who bought my grandfather's farm cut DOWN all the trees...both apple and cherry.

The cloud structure certainly indicates a violent thunderstorm is approaching.
