My newest pond improvement a homemade aerator.

Pond aerators can cost you from $100o to several thousands of dollars. They are used to keep oxygen flowing in your pond and makes the water clearer and a nature color to it instead of being green algae covered or a dirty brown color.

The attached pics are before and after the aerator I made for under $100 dollars and installed.

Before installation.

Post installation.

@meggie Awe thank you Meggie! 🌹♥️

How deep is your pond? Aeration will also eliminate the nasty bacteria and allow you to grow larger fish! I would expect you will see a difference by August. Are you taking O2 readings?
WillaKissing · 56-60
@TexChik 10 feet deep and no I am not all anally retentive taking oxygen readings and the like. I feed the fish once daily and provide cleaner aerator water and they grow every year without question.

@WillaKissing 😲. Don't be ugly to me. There is nothing anally retentive about recording good hard data about the improvement or lack thereof or the oxygen levels in your pond. If you were recording them, I would have been curious about what they were. We aerate one pond and the lake at the farm.

@TexChik I knew how to in expensively cure a hot non rainfall summer issue to increase the oxygen levels with a simple DIY project, and I have zero interests in becoming Bob Nye the Science Guy! LOL

Not being ugly at all, this was a problem and I fixed it and save the measuring for work on the home and deck building. Remember Army guy (If you want something tracked and taken out then that was my game) not scientist fellow over here.

What are you using a swamp cooler pump? You running it through any kind of filter?
Good job.
WillaKissing · 56-60
@goodlil666 Right now it will stay as it is, I killed the cat tails because they spread and too rapidly and take over pond edges for my liking. There will eventually be a dock built out over top of it to cover it with a trap door for winter removal. The reason I use the hose is because on the dock I will mount one of those wooden chainsaw bear carvings standing on its hind legs like he is peeing into the pond. Drill a hole through the deck and the carving to have the water shoot out like he is standing on his rear legs and peeing into the pond.

@WillaKissing Right on., love the pissing bear idea. I was wondering about the cat tails didn't know how fast they spread. We never had a problem with them taking over any of our ponds but we had cattle drinking from them to.
WillaKissing · 56-60
@goodlil666 Yeah, the cattle trample and chew on the cat tails and that keeps them in check. I do not have cattle, just my pure fishing pleasure pond.

Thanks for liking my bear idea! LOL

How to kill a cat tail without chemicals is when they grow their brown seed stalk is to cut the stalk off. That kills the plant it grew from at least that is how I killed the ones in two corners of my pond just by cutting the brown seed stalk as it grew up. I guess if you cut my penis and balls off, I would die too! I soak the seek stalks in Kerosene and made neat little torches out of them.

I stop using them when the kids stop using the ponds. (we have 4 on the property)
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
Oh, your pond is near your home. Ours are not, Two of them are in the middle of the woods. They used to be old cow ponds

Here what the big pond used to look like, When we used to use it, now wildlife basically took it over
Wade out there and use the water spray as a fountain feature… 👍
Aerates and looks purdy
WillaKissing · 56-60
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Look Steve Erwin you can do all the wading and fish and Fawna fondling. I will stick to a simple in expensive fix and enjoy fishing and watching you wade around with the hose in your hands.
Looks like it's clearing up the water nicely
WillaKissing · 56-60
@BizSuitStacy Yes, it is, I should have taken pictures of the whole pond surface before making the aerator, it was a total sheet of green algae, and cleared that off in one and a half days.
@WillaKissing Nice. This fish will appreciate it.
WillaKissing · 56-60
@BizSuitStacy Absolutely and no damn chemicals used either. They probably like that too !

So it's just a sump pump in a garbage can with some hose? Great DIY project.

Nice! I wish I had a pond!
WillaKissing · 56-60
@JimboSaturn Jim, I know it all depends on upon where you live and your land and soil types. Having a farm with clay under the topsoil makes it easy for me, and no homeowners associations.
WillaKissing · 56-60
@GovanDUNNY Thank you.

my pond, get out your magnifying glass, its the splash of water with rocks around it :P
