My newest pond improvement a homemade aerator.

Pond aerators can cost you from $100o to several thousands of dollars. They are used to keep oxygen flowing in your pond and makes the water clearer and a nature color to it instead of being green algae covered or a dirty brown color.

The attached pics are before and after the aerator I made for under $100 dollars and installed.

What are you using a swamp cooler pump? You running it through any kind of filter?
Good job.

@goodlil666 No special pump, just a standard sump pump and no filters. I put a cinder block in the pond and stood on it to anchor it down into the clay bottom. Drilled holes into the bottom all around the base of the black bucket (Sump pump well casing I had bought with the sump pump), then I placed that on top of the cinder block in the pond and put a couple rocks inside the casing and set the sump pump on top of the rocks. Then I drilled holes for the hose and electric cords and plugged it in. I run it during the day light hours only ad unplug it in the evening, and on rainy days I do not plug it in.

No filters because sump pumps pump sand and silt with the water out of homes, and I let it be simple.

@WillaKissing Nice job. You going to build a rock cover around it or plant some cat tails or something around it just to hide it a bit? No matter I am sure it is doing just what you wanted and needed it to for a great price.

@goodlil666 Right now it will stay as it is, I killed the cat tails because they spread and too rapidly and take over pond edges for my liking. There will eventually be a dock built out over top of it to cover it with a trap door for winter removal. The reason I use the hose is because on the dock I will mount one of those wooden chainsaw bear carvings standing on its hind legs like he is peeing into the pond. Drill a hole through the deck and the carving to have the water shoot out like he is standing on his rear legs and peeing into the pond.

@WillaKissing Right on., love the pissing bear idea. I was wondering about the cat tails didn't know how fast they spread. We never had a problem with them taking over any of our ponds but we had cattle drinking from them to.

@goodlil666 Yeah, the cattle trample and chew on the cat tails and that keeps them in check. I do not have cattle, just my pure fishing pleasure pond.

Thanks for liking my bear idea! LOL

How to kill a cat tail without chemicals is when they grow their brown seed stalk is to cut the stalk off. That kills the plant it grew from at least that is how I killed the ones in two corners of my pond just by cutting the brown seed stalk as it grew up. I guess if you cut my penis and balls off, I would die too! I soak the seek stalks in Kerosene and made neat little torches out of them.
