Decisions decisions decisions

So I’m not in a bad place mental health wise, not perfect, but not bad. However I know how easy it is to plummet if not careful.

This weekend will be a massive trigger for me, I know it will be because it is every year. It’s Father’s Day on Sunday and it hits me hard every single time. The problem is that it’s everywhere you go…on tv, on social media, in shops, pubs, restaurants. You just can’t escape from it.

So the choices do I stick it out, try to practice resilience and just push through with the occasional expected meltdown…

Or do I disappear until it’s over? Go off grid, no phone, no internet, no people until Monday?
BlueVeins · 22-25
have you ever seen Gravity Falls
@BlueVeins no, any good?
BlueVeins · 22-25
@SophieSmiles Incredibly so. If I were you, I'd hole up & binge watch that all weekend. Very few dads, either.
@BlueVeins thank you, I might just do that
Fluffybull · F
Personally, I'd stay in and read books, watch TV, have naps, have snacks 👍
@Fluffybull tv isn’t good, all the adverts and programmes showcase it, but Disney+ is my friend
Fluffybull · F
@SophieSmiles Oh, right. Watch dvds then 👍
Minxxy8o · 41-45, F
I'm personally not looking foward too Father's Day also..gonna be the first year without my Dad😥
@Minxxy8o sending hugs, it’s really hard and I’ve been doing it for years
Minxxy8o · 41-45, F
@SophieSmiles Thanx Sophie...I know in time its gonna hurt a little bit less😚
Jaydee7 · 31-35, M
I really want to say, push through it and face it.
But if it only will end up in sure meltdown, then it's not worth it. However, if you can find the strength to at least go through a quarter of the day normally, maybe good. Next year add an hour.
@Jaydee7 I know how it will go, it has for the last 13! Just think it’s one of the days that will always be too raw for me
Jaydee7 · 31-35, M
@SophieSmiles Then how about we just relax indoors, some netflix, disney, and chips. I mean you, not we. Dont kill me
@Jaydee7 lol I won’t kill you yoda
zerofuks2give · 36-40, M
I’m so sorry for your loss hun. Honestly, if it were me, I would probably hide until it was over. It’ll get easier with time, believe me. 🫂
zerofuks2give · 36-40, M
@SophieSmiles I know exactly what you mean 😢 my uncles death brought it to the surface last week but I’ve pushed that shit back down where it belongs.
@zerofuks2give that’s what I need to do, bury it and avoid
zerofuks2give · 36-40, M
@SophieSmiles it’s all we can do 😕
Elessar · 26-30, M
Ideal imo would be something that keeps you busy and at the same time away from society/TV/internet for the day.

Considering that it's summer, a one day hiking trip somewhere in the mountains + fancy dinner somewhere over there would be my choice, personally
@Elessar I think a long hike sounds good tbh, it’s meant to be perfect weather for it too
Jeephikelove · 46-50, F
I say go off grid. 🤗
@Jeephikelove I think that might be the plan
We can't really tell you what to do but we can anticipate the gravity of emotions and I don't think its worth it. Be safe girlie x
@SophieSmiles Let's Disney+ together and pig out on foodddd
@DrScissorhands that sounds like a plan…or I can hop to your time zone and just fast forward the day 🤗
@SophieSmiles That'll work best. Join me in the future 😌
Strongtea · 18-21, M
I kinda think push through, maybe if your’e on your own you might just have a meltdown anyway? And then there’s no one around. But it’s up to you.
@Strongtea there’s always that chance but it’s easier without the constant reminders
Strongtea · 18-21, M
Sure, but it’s gonna happen every year, however, it’s totally up to you, you’ve got to make yourself happy, so do that. Hope it’s ok.@SophieSmiles
You got daddy issues too? Same bro same. I'll give you a two day long hug to keep your mind off it.
@PervertedPrincessOfDeath I’ve got parent issues. Thank you 🤗
@SophieSmiles I've got multi generational family trauma. So i get you. You are safe here.
*hugs you* I say you could go off the grid and watch something you love and cook yourself something nice or just order a fancy meal. ❤
@PiecingMeBackTogether thanks lovely, I don’t cook but the rest sounds good 🥰
TexChik · F
Aww I'm sorry your father is a trigger. Do what is best for you. Melt downs take their toll.
@TexChik yea, I just don’t think it’s worth putting myself through it
TexChik · F
@SophieSmiles Nope, when mine happen I am sick for a month
OneDayMore · 36-40, M
Off grid!! Hide away!! You can pretend the world doesn’t exist. I will be. Second year for me.
@OneDayMore sounds like a plan…good luck to you too
OneDayMore · 36-40, M
Binge and purge@SophieSmiles

Good luck
Joeyyy · 26-30, M
Yeah since I went to therapy now when I hear people saying happy fathers day it triggers me a bit as well. I feel angry.
Mysterion619 · 22-25, M
Sorry for asking but why don't you like father's Day
@Mysterion619 because my dad died when I was young
Mysterion619 · 22-25, M
iamonfire696 · 36-40, F
