Is there anything special about being an American?

Montanaman · M
Americans are the melting pot of diversity.
All walks of life, all different cultures. From all corners of the earth. Freedom of beliefs, and the right to live free.
That sacred freedom we so boast about doesn't come without a cost. Our men and women of the Armed Forces protect that Freedom with their very lives.
Cowboy Up!

@Montanaman Very true 🌷
MrsMONAKanful · 36-40, F
@Montanaman exactly they have holidays and celebrations of all cultures and religions
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Montanaman So many people, including those who are foreign born, have pulled themselves up by their bootstraps here creating a life that they could have never imagined for themselves when they are young. I have known quite a few who have done that. In some countries the poor are judged harshly and family connections and other acts of nepotism are required in order to land a decent job. So much corruption that way in those countries .We have corruption here but not to that extent where young people refuse to get married in their mid-thirty’s or later as common practice so they don’t have to support a growing family.
Yes, there are lots of lovely people there, and you have taken in Prince Harry for which we are eternally grateful . By the way, we don’t want him back.

@nedkelly I was given the opportunity to stay in the US for at least a couple of years (and probably for good), but homesickness is a terrible disease... 😐
maskedbandit · 61-69, M
@sunriselover Will y'all return the favor by taking in Joe Biden?
@maskedbandit Hahahahaha we beg them to!
Convivial · 26-30, F
Its kind of sad in a way... There was much to admire about the American dream... But it's been prostituted and laid bare

rampant debt, morbid obesity, terrible healthcare (which the adds more to debt), extreme entitlement, but we do have great views, and landscapes.

Yes it's a free country.
helenS · 36-40, F
@ninalanyon Scientific standards require that the number of significant digits be in accordance with statistical experimental errors. I think you are right, the authors of those "freedom score" tables use three digits simply because it looks scientific... 😏
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@helenS I suspect that it's much worse than that. The creator of the web page might not even be aware of the concepts of experimental error or how such errors are quantified.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@helenS I don't either, but you asked about tables and I gave you one and there are lots more. None of them shows the US as a pinnacle of freedom.

I know many people who are afraid to visit the US because they do not want to be a random victim of gun violence. That would seem to me to be an indicator that it is not a safe country and surely that impacts on, for example, freedom of movement.
maskedbandit · 61-69, M
Yes, we can vote any idiot into office, including the dead and no one will care. For example, we are voting on two dead people, determining which is better. Right now, we are being overseen by the walking dead and some people are still going to vote for them anyway. They are not voting for the better of the country or world, they are voting just for the party, socialism, capitalism. No one knows what the constitution is all about or which party is trying to take our freedom away. They don't understand it's not the party, it's the leadership of the parties. So, idiots will keep on voting for idiots and the dead.
maskedbandit · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti 🤣 👍
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@maskedbandit Some people don’t know that a certain Orange Man has a degree in Quantum Physics and Quantum Everything is something he uses.
22Michelle · 61-69, T
@maskedbandit There's socialism on offer in America?
we must not be too bad, seems there is a very very long line of people trying to get in.
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
America may not have saved the world during wars but there are graves at Arlington, across Europe and the south pacific that tell a different story
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Patriot96 They stepped to do their duty and it seems like a lot of nations forget that. Belgium never did. God bless the Belgiums. I wouldn’t mind traveling there since they have retained that memory and are respectful to Americans.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Absolutely!!! We're unique, special; like everyone else.
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
Just that people like to assume we're all the same because the only things publicized about us are our idiotic government, mass shootings, hate, walls, stupid celebrities, ECT...

But I see beautiful land and most people just struggling to get by.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@AlchemyFox Some struggles early in life have created very strong and responsible people who are motivated to lift themselves out of poverty. Country singers included. Toby Keith is one of them as I heard in a recent extended interview
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Freedom, for starters.
Yeah, can comment about other cultures in a degrading way and get away with it.
MrsMONAKanful · 36-40, F
@helenS they aren’t Americans
AceOfSpades · 36-40, M
@helenS You say that like they are the only country who can. We British people do that all the time. We openly do it over here, we are even allowed to do it publicly on TV and everything.
helenS · 36-40, F
@AceOfSpades No I never said America is unique as far as that is concerned.

Apparently so or so many wouldn’t be wanting to immigrate here
It’s pretty cool how we all get together every Sunday in the autumn and watch American football and collectively consume empty calories to to get our asses bigger.

Envious, eh?
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@BiasForAction Aussie Rules - no padding, no helmets and played for 25mins x 4 quarters

@nedkelly I bet we Americans can consume more calories than you Aussies in that time
MrsMONAKanful · 36-40, F
Yes they are special

Last I knew, they were humans.
Just like most who live on earth.
No
Humans are humans
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
We're one of the most heavily propagandized groups of people on the planet, so that's fun. 🤔
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
You may get the best Clowns in the world as your leader
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
Helped win 2 World Wars - if they didn't help, any person in the World who wasn't Aryan, would have been sent to the GAS CHAMBERS ... does that answer your question 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

... also went to War to end Slavery

🤔... what else
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@22Michelle NOPE ... the Civil War was to end Slavery - nothing more, nothing less

It WASN'T to stop the Holocaust at all - Japan bombed Pearl Harbour on 7/12/41, so causing America to declare War on Japan, Japan wa nominally an Allie of Germany, i believe it was Germany that declared War on the US 1st

The US wasn't at War with Russia or China, when they murdered their own people ... BUT who's saying it was OK
22Michelle · 61-69, T
@BigGuy2 The Civil war was about the Southern slave states seceding, and they started the war. Slavery was a driver of the tension between the North and South, but it was aboug the South losing political and eonomic power. Lincoln becoming President without Southern support was one of the main causes. If ending slavery was the cause, and aim, of the war you'd have to be able to prove Lincoln, and the Northern states were bent on not only ending slavery, butvpreparing to use military force to do so.
Nb I think that many in the North wanted an end to slavery, but wanted it achieved through long term political and economic means.
