I didn’t think there was racism in the 80s. Saw a good ole boy go from E-6 to E-5 in one day for telling someone to go to the back of the bus. I loved the Navy!

@bijouxbroussard I thought “All in the Family” and the associated spinoffs did a real good job of making racism look ridiculous that no one would own up to it in a more progressive generation.

@Pfuzylogic That’s true, but Ronald Reagan began reversing that mindset.

That is so much the truth. He coined the phrase “liberal” from the McCarthy era and his use of it and made it a pejorative. Then he coined the term “welfare mothers” it made me want to grit my teeth.
He never shared that Nancy became his wife after he saved the “communist” from the black list. so she could still act in Hollywood.

The problem of racism has its roots in control of everyone.
Remove the control you remove racism.
Today's control just varies on multiple things. One of the strongest controls is race.
It's a the strongest rallying point.

@DeWayfarer Unfortunately, racism has its basis in what was once a viable trait for the survival of our species. Thousands of years ago, people who looked different from the herd got eaten by predators.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@LordShadowfire far more basic than that. Take a good look at who the Inca sacrificed. Control is the only answer for that.
And you don't need to go back a thousand years. Nor even different skin or eye color or even different eye types.
The only difference between Inca and Mayan was cultural differences.

@JustNik That’s exactly what I think. 🥺

Sadly I don't think we'll ever get rid of racism.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Thevy29 I imagine that’s true. But for a moment we were at least headed in the right direction. 🥺
ElwoodBlues · M
@Thevy29 We'll never get rid of crime either, but we still support police forces to reduce it. Let's keep up the fight against racism and not let the perfect be the enemy of the good!
I like to think one day we'll grow up as a species 🌺

@metaldog It's going to be painfully slow, but I agree.
bijouxbroussard · F
@metaldog For the sake of the young people in my life I hope it happens. And sooner rather than later. 🥺

Racism is another form of divide and conquer.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Longpatrol Indeed it is. It’s one reason I know Trump needs our country to be in chaos.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, MVIP
Of course not. Xenophobia is a useful tool for the oligarchs to keep us divided.
empanadas · 31-35, M
@LordShadowfire this is so true, the more divided we are the easier to control the population
bijouxbroussard · F
@LordShadowfire @empanadas It’s true. I’m certain when his supporters were speaking about Trump "bringing the country together" they were either being disingenuous or totally clueless. Trump has no interest in being a unifying factor; it doesn’t suit his goals. Our being at each other’s throats is exactly where he wants us.
