I certainly remember the song. I rather liked it. I was 13 at the time and would always watch the music shows on television during my teen years.
Sounds Unlimited was the program playing all the latest release. No doubt this song would have had air time.
It was their only hit in Australia.
The band was a One Hit Wonder.

@Gusman Someone else has posted another hit song of theirs, which I hadn’t heard before. Their sound definitely captures that mid-70s sound

I remember listening to this and lots of soft pop (Rhinestone Cowboy, That's the Way of the World, Love Will Keep Us together, etc, etc) on the radio in my dad's shop. I was young and alone working there and I remember it was sort of an act of defiance because as soon as he would leave in the morning I would change the station from WTMJ in Milwaukee or WBBM in Chicago which were all news stations to any AM station I could get that had music. And then towards the end of the day switch it back to news radio before he came back.

@Rickichickie interesting bit of trivia! Thanks for sharing

@Ghostinthemachine you live and learn 🧑🎓
@Rickichickie I’m still doing both 🤞

I'm riding around my Uncle's Camero, or our family car. It's summer and the seats are hot. Wind is blowing on our way to Mission beach in San Diego, CA. Going to a family cookout. It's the mid to late 70's and I can not wait to see our big family and to taste my grandma and great aunts cooking. We're going to have teriyaki steak, sushi, burgers, hot dogs, watermelon with seeds, sweet brown sugar, coconut sticky rice in banana leaves. Remembering I forgot my shoes and the parking lot is going to be hot......
@dragonfly46 Such a detailed, vivid picture you paint, and I can relate, especially to those hot asphalt parking lots in my bare feet!

@Ghostinthemachine The song took me way back. Could smell the ocean and taste the salt on my tongue.
@dragonfly46 Such sweet memories, and it’s amazing how many of them are tied to music.

Sure do I remember this song but have no connected memories, just that I liked it. Later in life I listened to the lyrics and was a bit disappointed because I thought it's a positive song.
@Rickichickie sad lyrics to a catchy tune, which begs the question, do I dance or drink to it?
Rickichickie · 61-69, F
@Ghostinthemachine both! Celebrate life and lost loves. Cheers! 🍻
@Rickichickie I like the way you think 🥂

It was the 70's and i was a kid of about 10-12.. Yeah i remember when this song came out on the radio.. Top music and good song.. But it took a while to see a video of them.. I understand why they where a one hit wonder,, they where pretty dorky looking bunch of guys, most people are into image and do not ratr substance too high.. So no matter how good your song is, if you where dorks then you are not in the cool bracket and therefore rejected..
@Adstar I think back in the 70s, at least until the disco era really got into full swing, how you looked didn’t really matter as much, as long as the music was good. I wish that was still true today, where image seem to take precedence
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Ghostinthemachine Well when Radio was the main promoter of music.. Your success was 100% linked to the quality of the music you produced because most people would have no idea how you looked.. But after programs like MTV started your visual presence became a factor.. That's when you started to get the dancing models types with the voices electronically boosted artificially being promoted..

I love this song!
This song was the opening credit theme from the 1975 film, The Man From Hong Kong.

@Sidewinder Very good! I’m curious about the movie now…
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Yes. It was used as the theme song for "The Man from Hong Kong". A movie with George Lazenby after his one James Bond appearance..😷..

@Ghostinthemachine I am not qualified as movie critic. But it didnt become a classic...The full movie is on You Tube 😷

@Jenny1234 I don’t have a specific memory, but it does capture that time, that feeling of nostalgia for me of growing up in the 70s.
Life for me seemed much simpler and full of wonder and optimism

@Ghostinthemachine Never heard that song and it never charted in Australia.
@Gusman What’s a song that was big in Australia that never charted in North America or England?

New Zealand band - Dragon had a hit with - Are You Old Enough?
Never made the UK or US charts.
Reviewed at the time of release, South Australian music magazine Roadrunner said the song was, "Their best yet. This band continues to make superb sounding singles (this will be No 1 for sure) and continue to be the most sexist band in the country. This one, about f*cking young women and going to prison for it is their most offensive yet."
David Nichols described the song as, "essentially a paean to underage sex, perhaps even pedophilia. A glowing, irresistible pop tune, sung delectably by Marc Hunter with uncredited backing vocal from Renée Geyer, it is a virtually flawless pop record, its subversive nature being an essential element of this status."
"When we'd go on the road Paul Hewson would bring a small bag with a few clothes and a chess set. He wrote most of "Are you old enough" on a nylon string guitar out on the water in a dinghy off Magnetic Island with a couple of girls who he wasn't too sure about".

My first time hearing it. Superhero. I like it. Kinda feeling it
@Bexsy I think it was a minor hit, but it kinda grows on you.
Watch, you’ll be humming it, Sidekick 😉

I do remember this song—it came out when I was in high school. I liked it but I never knew its name or who performed it.
@bijouxbroussard They were one hit wonders, so hard to remember their name. But the song has come back to me…many years later 😊
Iwillwait · M
Perfect Chase music.
@Iwillwait Astute observation, as I think it was used in an action film starring George Lazenby, who also played James Bond in On Her Majestys Secret Service.

@Ghostinthemachine Very cool!

Yes, great tune!
@Atlotto catchy, ain’t it?

@Musicman so am I 😂
