Do you like Elton John?

I heard this song on the radio today. The version about Marilyn Monroe, not Princess Diana.

My favorite song of his is "I guess thats why they call it the blues". It is always surprising when someone makes a song about something that isn't about relationships and even more that it is a good song.

To me, anything Elton John touches is gold.

Not a big fan, this is one of the few that I do like. My favorites are
Funeral for a friend and Tiny Dancer.
Also saw him in concert a couple times wasnt my cup of tea but luckily he toured with Billy Joel who rocked the place.

@HairbrushDiva yes you are correct that is who it was about originally but i thnk it was refashioned in tribute after the untimely death of princess diana

@smiler2012 I know. I've heard both versions. They still play the Diana version to commemorate her when it would have been her birthday or the anniversary of her death, but they play the Marilyn Monroe version quite a lot.
A lot of his stuff, especially his later work. His voice matured with a power and tone uncommon.

Beautiful song, adapted for Diana's funeral, performed at Westminister Abbey

I love it and did for many years before Princess Diana's tribute. I love that version too.

Really like n admire him
He's truly a revolutionary in his field
Also I love lady Diana
The version he made for her funeral feels very personal
They were good friends too

I always liked this one, but hearing the Diana version was supremely moving. I remember hearing the CNN anchor saying "I'm pretty sure that the song Elton John just played will soon be the #1 song all around the world!" He was right.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@uncalled4 It was. I was in junior school when it came out, I was about 8, but I remember it well.

@HairbrushDiva Everyone was in tears, then he hit us with that. The line "the stars spell out your name" was devastating to hear.

I don't know if you caught this - a discussion with Bernie Taupin, who of course was Elton John's songwriting partner

@Sidewinder They still play Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Rocketman, Philadelphia Freedom and I'm Still Standing on the station I have on. And "Daniel" as well, I heard that one on my birthday earlier this month.
