Are there any songs that bring up bittersweet memories for you?

Obviously there probably several for most people, but a big one for me is Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

It reminds me of a NasCar game my dad bought for me and my little brother when the original Xbox released. I never lived with them, or really had much in common, but I remember that song was the theme song to the game and we played it a lot when I visited. The funny thing is, none of us were NasCar fans, but the game was fun, but that could be nostalgia talking.

Unfortunately, they both passed away, so whenever I randomly hear that song it makes me think back to those days. I wish I had more time with them.

Never Tear Us Apart - INXS

This was the last song as my oldest sons funeral, every so often I hear this song and it brings me tears

A college friend of mine introduced me to the music of Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel in 1974 when we shared a flat together in London's Earl's Court. A huge crowd of us had tickets to see Cockney Rebel in concert but as we were getting ready Doog had the first of many nervous breakdowns. His girlfriend insisted the rest of us go as planned while she went to the local hospital with him. He had periods where he resumed his normal life but the psychotic incidents continued. Eventually, after about 10 years, Doog committed suicide - he left a note saying he couldn't bear to be a burden on everybody around him.

This was our shared favourite track.

This song illustrates what I really like about Christmas, and I can't help but remember the family who aren't around to share in them anymore.

@Thevy29 Brilliant lyrics! I always think of an old friend of mine who emigrated from England to Australia in the early 1980s

The worst feeling is grieving about someone you love who's still alive.

"Fade to Black" by Metallica. That song was the soundtrack to one of my suicide attempts as a young person.

I'll probably consider using that song for my next attempt as well (if there ever is one)

Thanks for sharing that. Songs have a way of connecting us to certain experience. It's a good thing to have.

About 13 years ago now, I was going out with this girl. She was 26 and I was 35. I thought things were going amazing, but apparently, she hadn't told her parents that I had a felony on my record.

Why was this a problem, you ask? Well, when she was 7 years old, her stepfather molested her. In fact, he kept doing it until she was like 11. Her mother was oblivious to the abuse, and she's been beating herself up ever since it came to light. So anybody who was even remotely questionable, she would prohibit her daughter from seeing. And of course, she found out.

First, she tried telling her not to see me, but she loved me and wanted to be with me forever and ever and ever. Then, she actually had the audacity to take away her 26-year-old daughter's cell phone for not obeying her. And when that didn't work, she threatened to send her to California to live with her aunt.

That's when she finally broke up with me. Not in person, not even with a phone call. By email.

I dedicated this song to her, and I think of her every time I hear it.
