Thought I’d treat myself to Bruce Springsteen concert tickets for the upcoming show in April til I saw the price for 2 tickets. Almost $2k for upper mezzanine 😞. Everything is becoming so unattainable.
I'd rather go to the panto or see a musical for that price... I can get front row, box of popcorn, drink, programme and t-shirt for that price - then the taxi home/
Hasn't this been attributed to a reversal of fortune? It used to be, musicians did concerts to promote album sales. But digitization has killed music sales and all the artists have left is concerts, as far as making money. Your local music store probably closed years ago.
That is very true. It is just sad to see happen. Nothing compares to visiting a record store (yes I’m old lol) and going to a couple of concerts a year@graphite
Bingo! This is exactly what happened. Several famous musicians have complained about this and how it has affected their ability to not only create music, but also to pay for the logistical costs of touring. Some artists have even sold their rights to their music resulting from decreased sales due to streaming.
Is that the venue or Springsteen's management charging so much though?
They'll end up wondering why they have dwindling audiences if they carry on like that.....
Upper circle. I have never really understood the attraction of circle seats, because they are so far from and so high above, the stage. Boxes are even worse, giving a very strange viewing angle from well away to the sides of the auditorium. That whether for a music or drama performance.
@TimeStandingStill I must admit I'd not trust an agency not to put on massive middle-men fees; and would ask why the venue is not selling tickets directly. Or if it does, what it charges for the same seats.
The artists might not have much say in the matter, but I don't know if that is the case here.
I only do venues that seat 300 or less, plenty of really good artists play these places and tickets are often 35 or 50 bucks a piece and you get a more personal show, less the distracting lights and smoke, etc. that’s my preference, go for what you enjoy if the high ticket acts are worth it for you.
@BackyardShaman definitely not a fan of high ticket prices. I am going to a smaller event in 2 weeks, it is a benefit concert. Unfortunately, not very much difference in price since it was for benefit.
{@timestandingstill] 🤔 besides the fact i would not pay two pound to watch spring spleen😄 either you must be a big fan or have plenty of cash to me personally its obscene and is it really worth the money
@TimeStandingStill I was thinking of doing some weekend trips for concerts...travel to a nice city for a weekend vacation and see a concert. But even driving a few hours to the place...2 nights in a hotel and the concerts and dinner out.....like $2500..... unbelievable.
I paid $500 per ticket for Keith Urban and that was front row pit with back stage meet n greet and gift bag. Incredible performer. Even shook his hand. 😎
I saw Bruce about 20 years ago. Gave it his all, as he's famous for. But playing live, it's still the 2% who can command a price like that. And it does not trickle down. The rest of us are squirrels trying to get a nut.
Here is an explanation, not that it would help with your frustration. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/bruce-springsteen-ticket-controversy-1391011/
Thank you! Interesting article but Ticketmaster, like most other monopolies lately, can explain the reasons why but unfortunately the consumer is not seeing this. Nor are we seeing the norm ticket price they are talking about. It is a shame. @Rickichickie
