Just superhero movies. Where has the intelligent, adult movies gone?
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@JimboSaturn Exactly, they're just catering for a limited market now, even horrors are more like fantasy or far too sensationalist.

Lately I reach for old movies from 90s and early 2000s. Recently I watched Now and Then (1995) and it felt so satisfying. I had never seen it before, only some scenes many many years ago and had no idea it was from there.
I don't say I don't like new movies but the older ones bring sweet nostalgy and comfort.

@CrazyMusicLover And at your age too! 😀 You already sound like me.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@FreddieUK I can imagine you can feel that way even for older movies. For me it starts maybe in late 80s, even if I wasn't even born then. But movies from 70s and older are usually too old for me. It must be something special and artistic if I want to enjoy it. Nothing like Alain Delon or Belmondo. I usually can't stand watching those. 😅 Columbo or James Bond with Sean Connery has never grown on me either.

This is the very reason i have a dvd collection.
Its like everything is being rehashed to be PC and dumbed down.
What happened to movies that made you think ?
That had wit and repartee in them? Pretty thin on the ground these days.
Altho i do like phantasy and sci fi, i dont like them spelled out to me in all obviousness.
Its like everyone has forgotten how to tell a story without cgi and explosions 🙄

The pandemic allowed a lot of studios to get their economic reset unfortunately.
Lots of decent big name Directors and Actors retired because they could see the way the industry was headed.
Studio heads not prepared to invest in new writing talent.
And because streaming is preferred by a section of society they've just decided to scale down.

I don't give a hoot about modern mainstream films.
Cult classics are, to put in the urban vernacular: "where it's at!"

Go for independent films. Probably a much better use of one's brain.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@RodneyTrotter1 There are small town places. Is there nothing by you?
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@uncalled4 We have an independent cinema but it only shows mainstream, the only ones nearby are Odeon, even worse.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@uncalled4 Indie films and cult classics rule!

long time ago.
they chased all the talent out of hollyweird.
its a prerequisite to be a sexual weirdo to be there....
and the creative writers couldnt run away fast enough...
cant wait for another titanic or king kong movie...

Oh god, and the superhero movies that they have run into the ground, talk about beating a dead horse.

Looks that way. All they do now is churn out remakes, reboots, sequels, and prequels, with DEI casts, PC scripts, and zero talent or entertainment value.
RodneyTrotter1 · 100+, M
@AbbeyRhode Good point, some of the acting is woeful and it's hard to understand some of the script. I gave up after about 10 mins not long ago because the main character was speaking so fast that my brain ached, seriously. Can't remember what it's called but it was a popular one.

@zonavar68 Go woke, go broke!
HobNoblin · 36-40, M
Ran out of script writers. There's no one now but woke losers from woke schools. There aren't any talented writers now.

Yes, I’ve been hating movies for about 15 years, it’s always the same Hollywood formula
