I think it’s because a lot of movies have lost story and content over trying to send a message to the audience, people don’t want a lecture when they can have a carefree movie with a good story and content 🤔 what do you think?

JPWhoo · 36-40, M
I personally haven’t watched much TV or many movies for about the last five years, but I haven’t seen a lot of previews that made me want to watch shows or movies either. Intuitively, I think you’re probably mostly right, although I saw Sinners last spring and thought it was pretty good.

I’ve got a friend on Facebook who’s often complaining that today’s movies are crappy. Now I know this guy because we’ve been in some local plays together, but he doesn’t share my core values. He works at a local TV station that is dominated by Republicans and Trump supporters, and he became one of them when he started working there. So he often complains on Facebook that movies these days are crappy because they’re too woke and that Hollywood is trying to socially engineer us to fit their liberal agenda, etc. It drives him nuts when fictional characters that have traditionally been white or male start being portrayed by nonwhite or female actors lol.

@JPWhoo Yeah sinners was an interesting movie I really liked the idea of the vampire and how his powers worked like a hive mind

I mean it’s not like a traditional role can’t be changed sometimes but tbh your friend is right that there’s a lot of woke movies all the time and Hollywood loves that. Having cool girl girl characters is awesome but only if they’re written well, not when it’s soo clear it’s about politics and takes away from the movie.
I’d actually rather have less girl bosses but have them be really great characters.

Sounds like most people agree; I do too.
I used to go see a movie once every month or two, but since covid - yeah, nothing really original. Comic-based movie, then a remake, then another comic, then a kid's movie, etc, etc.
Maybe they're so expensive to make now, that no one is willing to take chances. It has to be a surefire blockbuster in order to get made. Nothing original. I'm trying to remember the last really good movie I saw. It's hard!

i agree, i choose movies at the library to watch. they have a wide variety. i love the british shows
twistedrope · 26-30, M
The movies aren't too bad. The trailers are all just really bad. Marketing for movies and tv sshows all look the same. i think the studio contracts out the trailers for their movies which is why they all look and feel the same. Try watch a trailer for fantastic 4 for this year and watch the old trailer for fantastic 4 from like early 2000's and which one feels more interesting to watch

The last time I was in a theater to watch a movie was Angry Birds and that was with my grandson. There has been nothing I`m willing to spend well over $100 to see on the big screen.
TheHeroOfTime · 18-21, M
I agree. It's like they aren't trying anymore.

@WhiteSapphire Can you say "remake"?
dale74 · M
I fully agree
Mudkip · 31-35, M
Too many superhero movies, I like older films or drama/horror films. Last I saw was Saw X and it didn't disappoint
Cigarguy · M
I'm waiting for my kids to grow up and move out so I can watch regular TV shows again lol
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M

WhiteSapphire · 18-21, F

daddylikestoshow · 46-50, M
Did you see the new final destination movie? It wasn't to bad
Pretzel · 70-79, M
to many comic book movies for my taste
WhiteSapphire · 18-21, F
@Pretzel Rightt! I totally agree. I mean now they rebooting Superman cause there’s only been lol 8 movies with him in the past 10 years with Henry Cavill who did a good job as him I think. Now you get a worse actor, worse plot worse everything and fits supposed to be big new blockbuster.. like gimme a break
Pretzel · 70-79, M
@WhiteSapphire ohh
super hereo
bam boom
fight
crash
oh look superhero wins

who'd have thought it
bikelover · 56-60, M
What’s your favourite movie?
Marija · 31-35, F
No, its not just you. Its universal.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Or when they do get an original movie (The book was awesome your looking forward to the movie) and then they change too much of it to be woke or Hollywood, and spoil the story line. 😒
Alyosha · 31-35, M
Hollywood has its ups and downs.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@Alyosha mostly downs
YoMomma ·
Everything's on streaming apps now they are the big show makers these days
WhiteSapphire · 18-21, F
@YoMomma I agree but even on those it’s still a tiny tiny amount of actual good content I feel. I mean I know it’s subjective and all but I mean Netflix pumps out hundreds of shows and maybe 95% aren’t worth watching imo
YoMomma ·
@WhiteSapphire i actually haven't watched anything lately just news and music and cooking/baking on youtube
Pfuzylogic · M
This like they haven’t expected any good revenue coming in since the Pandemic.

@WhiteSapphire For a long time, the big-budget entertainment world has copied itself a lot. And the budget size IS the issue.
Acheron · 41-45, M
Hollywood is ruining you. This should be the prime of your movie memory years.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
Same here, but nothing good from the past 16 years
