there are two types of si-fi movie I feel after seeing in these years , one is attracted by it's fact and concept and another by it's story telling way and graphic situation , in first case i always prefer Arrival as in first position and in second case my all time fave is Predator (1987) this is made b4 my birth and I have seen that after 20 years of my birth and get addicted to it
lonelyloner · 31-35, F
@HowtoDestroyAngels thanx sir and The Game ? although it's not formal si-fi really
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
@lonelyloner Awesome movie. I love Michael Douglas.

The first one that really blew me away was 2001: A Space Odyssey, and although I think it's aged well, it is very much of its time. The most recent one which I watch fairly often is Interstellar because if it's excellent mix of great plot line, good theoretical science, excellent characterisation and the wonderful organ based score.

There are many others I could list, but you've asked just for my favourite.

Edited to get the title right 🤦‍♀

Sunshine is one of those films for me that I think is a masterclass in directing. There is zero fat on that film. The dialogue is perfectly relevant, there's excellent foreshadowing, the tension and anticipation is precise, characters are given so much nuance and personality through body language and tone. I truly love that film.

2001: A Space Odyssey

I’ve also enjoyed sci-fi anime films like Akira and Ghost in the Shell.

@Matt85 My favorite movie of all time.
Prob the one with the Father Knows Best boy and Michael Rennie. It's short and real 1950s-like.
@HowtoDestroyAngels

The Day The Earth Stood Still - Sam Jaffe was in it, too.
HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
@rinkydinkydoink That's a great movie.

HowtoDestroyAngels · 46-50, M
@Bignakedguy I love both versions as well.
Markmywurdz · 56-60, M
Bit of a toss-up between Forbidden Planet and Silent Running.
supersnipe · 61-69, M
@Markmywurdz 'Silent Running' came to mind immediately for me. It came round my way as a 'B' picture but was an excellent piece of work - kind of philosophical.
GerOttman · 70-79, M
