Do you have a favorite but unconventional role by

an actor/actress you like? Maybe John Wayne as Genghis Khan (the founder of the Mongol Empire}?

I enjoyed Tom Hanks in a film called The Terminal.

And I enjoyed Meg Ryan tackling a serious dramatic role in Courage Under Fire
@DrWatson

I heard of The Terminal but that's it. But TH as an Eastern European? Seems like there's nothing he can't do - and do well.

How ya doing,Pilgrim

Rex Harrison played Saladin in King Richard and the Crusaders...

@bookerdana Sad story.
Landis was having an affair with Harrison.
Distraught over his refusal to marry her, drove her suicide.

Harrison was a bad man....a very bad man

A good piece of casting against type was Henry Fonda in Once Upon A Time In The West. He was a truly creepy 'bad guy'
@FreddieUK

YES. Very chilling...

@rinkydinkydoink I had that image in my mind. 😄 Brilliant film in so many ways.
Did anybody like Wayne in The Conqueror? He makes me cringe in that movie.
@bookerdana

Here it is - skip to the last scenes are to get a feel for the movie (to see if you can sit through it or not)

The upshot is the stranger has never played a real game in his life. Against any opponent.

@rinkydinkydoink i went there no subs but i got another set from opensubtiitles.org
That’s a role I think of when people complain about a black mermaid.
@rinkydinkydoink You didn’t see all the controversy that occurred when there was a remake of Hans Christian Andersen’s "The Little Mermaid" with actress Halle Bailey ? People were really upset about it, conveniently forgetting that white actors have been playing the roles of Asians, Native Americans and other people of color since the beginning, including the roles of those who actually lived.
@bijouxbroussard

I didn't see any of that but I can believe it :(
@rinkydinkydoink It got pretty ugly. 🙁

The Mask of Fu Manchu, a MGM film from '32, stars Boris Karloff as Fu Manchu.....but this isn't the one.

It's Myrna Loy as his sadistic daughter, Fah Lo See.

@rinkydinkydoink "Harder! Faster! Faster!"

How could you not watch the whole movie?

Fun fact: Kenneth Strickfaden doubles Karloff in the scene where Fu is holding the sword and running an electric current through it.
In the first take, Strickfaden got shocked and was thrown across the room! He got up and dusted himself off....take 2 went as planned.

@rinkydinkydoink
Hard to believe, right?
@JSul3

About watching the whole movie - for me it's simply a case of "seen one weird 1930s through 1940s monster or sci-fiish movie you've seen them all"

However, the fun facts are what make just about every movie more enjoyable. :)

Hard to believe - MGM producing Freaks? Yes sir. Until a few hours ago I didn't know MGM pulled it from theaters back then after so many complaints (about its tastelessness I suppose).

Wayne as Khan is probably the 'topper.'
Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan in I'm Not There (2007)

@ElwoodBlues

Not kidding - I see a purely blank page.

@rinkydinkydoink Bummer. Seems searching for links on this side of the border doesn't help you.
@ElwoodBlues @ElwoodBlues

THIS I can see :)
