Do you have a favorite but unconventional role by

an actor/actress you like? Maybe John Wayne as Genghis Khan (the founder of the Mongol Empire}?

Did anybody like Wayne in The Conqueror? He makes me cringe in that movie.
@robingoodfellow

Seeing him on Laugh-In was enough...

@rinkydinkydoink I'd like to meet the person who talked him into putting that on.
@robingoodfellow

Tricky Dick played the piano on that show, too... what Big C conservatives won't do to show people they're just folks...

@rinkydinkydoink Ever see him at the Harvard university's Hasty Pudding Club??? He was really quite funny ..they asked him if it was really his hair,and he said ,Better be,I paid for it😌

this is the longest clip i could find,unfortunately

@bookerdana @bookerdana

I bet it took guts for him to go into that (supposed) lions' den.

There was a Canadian show that aired smart people being challenged by college crowds (damned if I can remember the name of it). Not once did I ever see the "kids" out-debate a guest.
bookerdana · M
@rinkydinkydoink It was more a roast than a debate and he was surprisingly witty..go 🤷‍♀figure
@bookerdana

You're right - not a debate at all. Aren't most chess players - as Wayne was - witty?!
bookerdana · M
@rinkydinkydoink Not all..Hans Niemann comes to mind
@bookerdana

The man looks some grim...

bookerdana · M
@rinkydinkydoink He is surly ,too...Magnus can be witty
@bookerdana

The brains these guys must have - - ever see a movie called Brainwashed?

bookerdana · M
@rinkydinkydoink No but I saw Vasyl Ivanchuk,"Chucky",repplay a game without looking at ta board and theinterviewer would say what if he played D4??

And he'd go down a long series of moves,interspersed with ,I think this is good for me!
@bookerdana

Exactly - blind playing OR remembering the moves in entire games.

The movie is probably dated by now but it features a scene where a world champion was playing a table of games on a ship with ease until this stranger started making better moves than the champ. The movie shows how the stranger got to be so proficient.
bookerdana · M
@rinkydinkydoink I'll see if its available...I enjoyed The Queens gambit,which shows a glimpse of that faculty...most top grandmasters know up to 50 or more famous games
bookerdana · M
@bookerdana I downloaded it but now I have to find a subtitle file😭
@bookerdana

Here it is - skip to the last scenes are to get a feel for the movie (to see if you can sit through it or not)

The upshot is the stranger has never played a real game in his life. Against any opponent.
