I didn't quite get what you meant so I googled blacks playing mermaids to see you meant some controversy about casting Ariel.

But! I also discovered this - -

@rinkydinkydoink You didn’t see all the controversy that occurred when there was a remake of Hans Christian Andersen’s "The Little Mermaid" with actress Halle Bailey ? People were really upset about it, conveniently forgetting that white actors have been playing the roles of Asians, Native Americans and other people of color since the beginning, including the roles of those who actually lived.
