The most seminal show was All in the Family. Norman Lears crown jewel that spawned many other shows such as Good Times, The Jeffersons, and Maude for a few. It made the 70s seem like a new era of attitudes particularly towards racism. We could use something like that now!

From a broad perspective, it's probably Simpsons. Not just in reach and popularity, but specifically mentioned by a US president as badly influencing the US public. In a lot of ways, you can trace a lot of the current dysfunction of the US back to cultural norms proposed by that show

@Cantsayno I remember MASH and All in the Family to be the first sitcoms to have strong dramatic content - they could be thought provoking and relevant while being just plain funny. The ability to do both is what made them great
