I was in California in 1979 and actually attended a taping of Hollywood Squares. The best celebrity, as far as entertainment value, was Tony Randall. During the commercial breaks he would almost do a mini stand up routine including dirty jokes.
If you watched a lot of HS you will remember when they would come back from commercial breaks Peter Marshall would be laughing. I knew why after seeing them live.

Mr. Winters was a fine comedian....and was in the TZ episode, A Game of Pool, with Jack Klugman.

I remember watching when Charles Bronson was in one of the squares and a question was posed about who the biggest movie star in the world was at the time... the answer surprised everyone but Charles Bronson.
