Donald Sutherland (RIP)

I loved him in the original movie of MASH - I can still remember the shocked intake of breath in the cinema when one of the characters in the scrum said "I'm going to knock your fuckin' head off!" 😂

He was also brilliant in "Klute" with Jane Fonda.

Oh no he was a great actor..😔
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
I still like him as "Oddball" in "Kelly's Heroes". Not a great movie... but Donald Sutherland is extremely enjoyable in that movie.

@Kwek00 YES!!!
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@ArtieKat Yeah, it's a movie a lot of people miss... because it's kinda kitchy and stupid. But Donald is splendid in it.

Similair for "The Great Train Robery". Not a great movie, but a great performance.

@Kwek00 I like the movie - it's shown quite frequently on UK TV.

Wow, this is so sad. Canada has lost one of her best sons.

@SW-User @ArtieKat It looks like the double lightning rune of the ss

It's not even that deep, it's merely the numerical equivalent to HH - Heil Hitler.

H is the 8th letter of the alphabet

Some skinheads get 311 tatted - 11 11 11 or KKK
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
@SW-User either way lol I don't think Donald Sutherland was part of Hitler Youth
My favorite was Joanna in 1968. A non mainstream movie that was probably ignored by many theaters.

Also great music with Rod McKuen

@Heartlander I don't remember even hearing about that.
@ArtieKat It was shied by mainstream theaters but a big hit at art theaters (remember them?) and became a bit of a cult movie.

We stumbled into it at the old Bexley Theater in Columbus, Ohio in like 1968 or 69.

@in10RjFox So many great movies. Who can forget the erotic scenes with Julie Christie in "Don't Look Now"

He was a great actor, but his role in "Day of the Locust" was so disgusting to me that I had a hard time liking him for a while.

@exexec

Did you know Sutherland's name in Locusts was Homer Simpson? 🤔
exexec · 70-79, C
@SW-User No. I did not.

I forget, during his beatdown did he scream out "D-oh!" Every time he was hit? 🫨

He was also in “Animal House”.

He was also great in Animal House
SW-User
He was great in The Bodysnatchers.

Great actor and seemed like a good guy. Loved him as Hawkeye Pierce in M.A.S.H. and the pot smoking scene from Animal House was so good.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
His performance in Ordinary People is like an acting Master Class. Actually, pretty much everyone in that movie.
@uncalled4 Yes, one of the best and most accurate movies ever. As someone too familiar with the theme, it was right on, with the performances and behaviors almost too realistic.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Heartlander Judd Hirsch, Timothy Hutton, Mary Tyler Moore, Robert Redford, all total and complete aces on that. I had no idea MTM had that kind of range as an actor. Gads, I hated her character.

One of the pros from Dover
