The upcoming US Civil War movie sounds implausible.

Texas and California on the same side? Bollox. Nobody could suspend disbelief that much.

It could work if they're fighting the war against homeless people or something.

@BlueVeins Ohhh.... Cold.
It is pandering to a very specific demographic. Although not sure if that is a great strategy to make much money on a film.

I got into disaster preparedness a few years back which can very quickly lead to the survivalist/prepper community which is largely right wing.

So I can tell you there are people in California particularly in rural areas that would identify with this and these people talk like they live in hostile territory like occupied Europe in WW2.

Funny enough most of these people see Hollywood as being as much an "occupying force" as their state government.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow many in Hollywood sound like politicians when they address the masses without a movie script .
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
They are like most states, with liberal urban areas and conservative rural areas, and they battle over the suburbs.

It is just that in California, the urban areas have more sway. But the trend in every state is that urban areas grow at the expense of rural areas, and people move to cities for jobs. So eventually Texas will turn blue. And I think it may be the most populous state someday.

@Bumbles

A long giant red thing!

Looks ridiculous.

@SumKindaMunster It really does. They've deliberately ducked out of dealing with the real divisions in us society and made the premise meaningless.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@Burnley123 Indeed. Reminds me a bit of "The Purge" and in particular the 3rd one, "Election Year".

Those movies were not known for their sense of realism and plausibility...still the first one was a pretty great thriller.

Written and directed by Brit novelist Alex Garland, which might account for a lack of American insight.

@Richard65 Ah that does explain a thing or two...like the scene of American characters eating a breakfast of beans and blood pudding...

I think there was both Confederates and Unionist in a few U.S states.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@Burnley123 Rarely anti-war?? Interesting. I'm certainly not a pacifist; that is true. Is that what you meant?

I do not ever favor war. In university I studied diplomacy. A negotiated solution is always preferable to war. But, a people always have the fundamental right to self defense. 🤔
zeggle · 61-69, M
@sarabee1995 It was an awful war. Friends, country men and even families fight against each other. I guessed the % was well informed. I know from reading about it, myself. That you wasn't making calculations up. I was attributing the knowledge to yours meaning ours.

@sarabee1995 Fair. My bad

Strange bed fellows indeed .
