probably a dozen or more...kids loved it and we would watch it every year.

My mother had dementia and was in a special unit of a nursing facility, everytime I went in there to see her this movie was on. One of nurses saw the play it at least a couple of times each day the residents love it and dont remember seeing it before. My wife would ask how is your mother doing today my response was" I am 16 going on 17".
meggieF
@2ndtimeguy that is a lovely memory you have knowing she enjoyed her time there

NEVER. Grease is probably the only musical I've watched all the way through.
akindheart61-69, F
my son lives near where this was filmed. the castle in the opening scene is in Salzburg and is now painted white. the Austrians hated the movie until it made them tons of money. I saw the house that was in the movie
meggieF
@akindheart yes yhey did hate it. I'd forgotten about that. Great to visit these old movie sites. I've also visited some famous painting sites which haven't changed a lot.
akindheart61-69, F
@meggie i was kind of shocked to find out they hated it because the Us loved it so much

About four times.

I've seen it several times. Great movie! It does, however, make me incredibly sad to know Julie Andrews can no longer sing.
jackjones68M
Ive never seen it. Only clips
Didnt Max von Sydow pass away a couple of years ago
JovialMoose46-50, M
I took my son to one of those sing along viewings.

It鈥檚 fun to boo the Nazis.

I never cared much for musicals. I have seen it on but never had the interest to watch it,
BarbossasHusband36-40, M
A few times as a kid bc my younger sister liked it and we had only one tv.
WillaKissing56-60
Countless times and a great story!
Thevy2941-45, M
I think I've seen it more the 6 times... Weekends at grandma's house. It was her favourite. The part I liked is when the Nazis search the convent for the family but can't get their cars started cause the Nuns stole their engine parts.

Willingly?

They did the play production when my daughter was in high school. We watched it so she could get into the part. I don't know, if I have seen it in whole since then. I like the story a lot. It is very uplifting, and the music is great.

Have you heard the episode of This American Life about the woman who had never seen the second half as a kid? It is very good.

Well probably a dozen or more when I was a child, I definitely haven't seen it in about 40 years though
Perhaps twice; once when it was new, second time with my youngest sister (who was not impressed, no car chases, I suppose). 馃き
Christopher Plummer, Charmian Carr & Heather Menzies (the two oldest girls) have since passed away.
Jexie26-30, F
Well, I was made to watch it once in school. From what I remember it seemed ok, not bad.
lumberjackslam41-45, M
hurry up and make a second movie
AzlottoM
I have never watched it.
never, I doubt it would be my cup of tea, not a fan of musicals

I think I've only heard it sampled in a Polygon Window track
NinaTina26-30, F
About as many times as this post sticks to top of my feed
LilnonamesF
Never saw it
Voluntarily, maybe once as a small child when it started being shown on tv evey year in the 70's, forced to hear it while my older brother and mother watched it, and sang along in the following years, while I ran out of the room plugging my ears, I lost count.
meggieF
@NativePortlander1970 i liked it the first few times, but now I couldn't sit and watch thd whole way though.
@meggie My mother was a glee clubber in the 50's and 60's, she sang along to everything she could on tv, and in public in stores as well. She also had a day care out
of our apartment when I was a kid in the 80's, and when we would go out she would put her purse strap through a belt loop in our pants and make us walk single file ahead of her. We could see the stares on us by others, it wasn't to keep us from getting abducted, it was to keep us from bolting in all directions when she started singing along to the shopping mall muzak.
