I never really wondered or cared, but upon watching the movie again the other day, it looks to me like Han fires, his shot kills Greedo who then fires spasmodically and way off. If Greedo fired first, he has pretty piss poor aim. Is this even intended as a serious sci fi dork question when someone asks it?

I think this is one of those things that Lucas ended up altering in later releases

Yeah I was just reading about that.

@DanielChristensen: He's changed so much that unless you have one of the original tapes of it, it's simply lost to time

You know the first time I saw The Phantom Menace in theatres, I could swear at the end that one of the masters was holding a brown bladed lightsaber. Apparently not though lol. If you go to Wookiepedia there was a brown lightsaber, belonged to Oob Bnar or some such and the brown crystal was secreted by some giant worm. :D

Huh, well alright then. I did not know that

You are correct.

@BlueMetalChick: Are you referring to the altering of who fired first? Who fired first originally then? I believe I once heard that the Millennium Falcon was originally destroyed as it fled the 2nd Death Star, but fans were outraged in initial screenings. You do recall that Han has a premonition that he will never see his beloved freighter again.
