The Shining, is it as good as everyone says?
There are some crazy theories out there, kubrick was either a lunatic or a visionary. If you like the movie, sell it to me.

Kubrick was unique. A lot of directors make the same film over and over again or at least stay in the same genre. Kubrick did one, usually brilliant, film in a genre and moved on. Historical fiction with Barry Lyndon, science fiction with 2001, history with Spartacus, dystopia with Clockwork Orange, anti-war movie with Paths of Glory, war movie with Full Metal Jacket, horror with the Shining, etc.

I'm not a fan of that particular movie. But I like several of Kubrick's films. He wanted to make films about different genres. He did it and did it spectacularly well.

I thought it was great but Stephen King didn’t like it because it wasn’t faithful to the original book and I think some of his fans agree.

Yes, but it's also a special movie to me, as I first saw it when I was 12 and it haunted me. To modern audiences it probably feels slow and tame. Not in 1980!

@Harmonium1923 Yup, my parents were out of the house at the time. The twins probably wouldn't scare anyone these days, but when I was 12 it was pure horror, as was the blood coming out of the elevator, and the old woman.
