What’s your favourite movie?

Mine has to be Drive. It’s my whole personality in a movie.

But that shifts by the day, on others it can be The Passion of Joan of Arc, Tokyo Drifter, and even The Big Sleep which is a movie I really, really adore.

I don't know about favorite movie in particular but I love cheesy romance comedies the most
ZashaKitty · 26-30, F
@SW-User I don't think I have seen that one but I really like Rose Byrne, so I will look it up

@ZashaKitty I'll watch anything with her. As for other cheesy romcoms don't know about it being a romcom but it's like a romcom with a twist is This Is War with Chris Pine & Tom Hardy fighting over [I think] Reese Witherspoon. That was a good little movie.

And as always the obligatory mention of Silver Linings Playbook, which is a film I just adore.
ZashaKitty · 26-30, F
@SW-User This is war is a good movie though i think she picked the wrong guy at the end.
Silver Linings Playbook is one of my favorite movies. Very relatable some parts of it

@PepsiColaP wat where, redeem this horrifying film for me 🥴
@wackidywack I feel like its a film that needs to be watched more than once
At the first time going in with no background and the second one knowing where to look for the Easter eggs
When the act of pursuing an abstract goal, in this case the search for the Regulatory Principle, becomes the only reason for living, or an obsession, the sensitivity for everything else is lost, as the process of abstraction separates the Subject from the Object. This abstraction can lead to permanent dissatisfaction, generating a void in the human soul. In order to disrupt this perverse mechanism, it’s necessary to re-establish the relationship between us and the surrounding environment: this lets us restore our natural sensitivity.

This might sound weird, but it's entire set up is super cheap. It's filmed in black and white, the scenes are simple but recognisable, it really doesn't have a lot going for it. And yet, it kinda draws you in, ... it shows that with few materials and black and white imagery you can make someting really compelling. Then you have this dreamy nightmarish drum and base playing, constantly wipping you in this sort of frenzied like state of mind as the main character deals with his obsessive insanity.

[media=https://youtu.be/35e61H2v4HQ]

The dialogue is weird, and yet there are some really good moments in there. The best moments are those moments where the main character is talking to his mentor while playing GO. And the more he searches, the more complicated it is, the more restless he gets, the more frantic the entire situation becomes and the more you feel that he's going to break down at any minute. All the actors play it incredibly well. Even though the story is so bizar and fucked up, it feels like all of it is real. And it just pushes you to it's dramatic conclussion. There are no boring moments, it just keeps firing stuff at the vieuwer, it's visually pleasing, hypnotic and even the moments where you get some serenity it goes along with self reflection before the drums start kicking in again. It's just a rush.

When you ask me, if this is the best movie ever made... I'll say no, like there are better works out there. You can't compare this with things like: The Godfather, Jaws, Bladerunner, ... . But that doesn't mean I don't love it. It's just shows that you don't need to have a massive budget to make a really good movie. And I just love the insanity of it all. It's really well done IMO.

@tindrummer I have never seen any Kurosawa but intend on making a whole thing of it...although I did try that with Tarkovsky and turned Stalker off less than 30 minutes in which is breaking my cardinal rule abut giving every film its run time. Probably my mood at the time too. Too much dreariness...I could just look out any window for that in Northern Ireland.

Looking forward to when I get to look at Kurosawa though. Seven Samurai, Ran et al.

Drag Me To Hell is my favourite of Raimi's output and Alison Lohman is charming as hell in it.

Aw...I just found out she retired from acting in 2009 following her marriage to [director] Mark Neveldine. I hope he's a good guy and isn't doing that controlling thing some do with their other half, but she has had cameos in three of his films so maybe not. Hope not anyway. She was so pretty in DMTH and a great iconic character as Christine imho.

Hopefully she made her own choices to raise her kids. I know there are stars who have done that before.

Alison Lohman looking badass in Drag Me To Hell.

It's a really good movie. The two leads are brilliant and the soundtrack is superb.
RVLPreborn · M
@Burnley123 I need to see more Carey Mulligan. She really embodies the spirit of the girl next door that we all grew up crushing on
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@RVLPrebornIn Shame, she is the Fassbender character's dysfunctional libertine sister. It's VERY different. 🤣 You are absolutely right though because, in Drive, she is the neighbour you want to marry (and I want to marry).

She's been in a lot of romantic movies and British period dramas. I don't watch those because it's not my thing.

@Fukfacewillie Sure feels like Hollywood lost the glow in its movies after that time. From what movie is your avatar?
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@RVLPreborn It’s from a movie called “The Sweet Smell of Success” with Tony Curtis and Burt Lancaster. Highly recommend it!
