What’s your favourite movie?

Mine has to be Drive. It’s my whole personality in a movie.

But that shifts by the day, on others it can be The Passion of Joan of Arc, Tokyo Drifter, and even The Big Sleep which is a movie I really, really adore.

@PepsiColaP wat where, redeem this horrifying film for me 🥴
@wackidywack I feel like its a film that needs to be watched more than once
At the first time going in with no background and the second one knowing where to look for the Easter eggs
When the act of pursuing an abstract goal, in this case the search for the Regulatory Principle, becomes the only reason for living, or an obsession, the sensitivity for everything else is lost, as the process of abstraction separates the Subject from the Object. This abstraction can lead to permanent dissatisfaction, generating a void in the human soul. In order to disrupt this perverse mechanism, it’s necessary to re-establish the relationship between us and the surrounding environment: this lets us restore our natural sensitivity.
This might sound weird, but it's entire set up is super cheap. It's filmed in black and white, the scenes are simple but recognisable, it really doesn't have a lot going for it. And yet, it kinda draws you in, ... it shows that with few materials and black and white imagery you can make someting really compelling. Then you have this dreamy nightmarish drum and base playing, constantly wipping you in this sort of frenzied like state of mind as the main character deals with his obsessive insanity.

The dialogue is weird, and yet there are some really good moments in there. The best moments are those moments where the main character is talking to his mentor while playing GO. And the more he searches, the more complicated it is, the more restless he gets, the more frantic the entire situation becomes and the more you feel that he's going to break down at any minute. All the actors play it incredibly well. Even though the story is so bizar and fucked up, it feels like all of it is real. And it just pushes you to it's dramatic conclussion. There are no boring moments, it just keeps firing stuff at the vieuwer, it's visually pleasing, hypnotic and even the moments where you get some serenity it goes along with self reflection before the drums start kicking in again. It's just a rush.

When you ask me, if this is the best movie ever made... I'll say no, like there are better works out there. You can't compare this with things like: The Godfather, Jaws, Bladerunner, ... . But that doesn't mean I don't love it. It's just shows that you don't need to have a massive budget to make a really good movie. And I just love the insanity of it all. It's really well done IMO.
