As for the most stunning I saw, I'd say Mommy, by Xavier Dolan

Kwek00 · 41-45, M
🤷‍♂️
Both Blade Runners?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 Well, I told you and QuixoticSoul that this is a theater experience. This is one of those movies that just work better on a big screen, because the visual aspect is a huge part of what they are trying to do. I'm also glad that I went to see it in the theater. But we were apperently (for once) a month ahead of a lot of other countries. And Australia will only get a release on the 3th of december.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Kwek00 Yes. I am going to see it a second time in a few weeks because of that reason. Its a made for cinema film as much as Avatar is.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Burnley123 I'm actually thinking of going again too. But I'm not sure if I actually will. But this is one of those movies where I have no issue going a second time.
VirginMatchmaker · 46-50, M
Blade Runner was way ahead of it's time.
Senecaa · 70-79, M
@VirginMatchmaker like bladerunner
VirginMatchmaker · 46-50, M
@Senecaa From the opening sequence onwards it's stunning. Although the end scenery is completely out of character. But wasn't that because it was shot for The Shining?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Senecaa Both movies perhaps.
comfi1 · 61-69, M
Gravity for the way it was filmed to look like one take and the visuals
CakeByTheOcean · 26-30, F
I’d say Gravity, and in a bleak kinda way the Revenant.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
I liked avatar
Select portions of Blade Runner 2049,
What Dreams May Come, Interstellar.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SethGreene531 I was disappointed by Interstellar but on visuals, its definately up there and that was my question.
@Burnley123 Yeah, I wasn't crazy about it, but the visuals were well crafted.

Gravity was another.
Northwest · M
So many, Avatar, Pearl Harbor, Armageddon. I have not seen Dune yet, but I have it on HOBMax.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Northwest I'd see Dune in the cinema if you get the chance. Like Avatar, it's just better in a theatre.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
Mirrormask, it's a move by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SatanBurger Good call. The plot is flaky but it's visually miles ahead of its time.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@Burnley123 I like the plot.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
Days of Heaven was pretty stunning, visually.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@PhilDeep goooooooooooood. call
Senecaa · 70-79, M
@PhilDeep what's days of heaven about?
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@Senecaa It's a period romance.
Abstraction · 61-69, M
Fellowship of the Ring. Peter Jackson nailed a lot of things. After that each movie became more ridiculous until I didn't bother with last of The Hobbit: ad nauseum, I think it was called.
I loved cinematography in the Mission.
2001: A space odyssey - for its time. Parts look dumb now, but it was the first to nail space travel.
Avatar. 3d. It was very, very cool and experiential.
I'm sure I'm missing something....
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Abstraction Is Orkland New Zealand's biggest city?
Abstraction · 61-69, M
@Burnley123 Yes, only city over 1 million.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Abstraction Auckland lol. You Aussies have five.
Senecaa · 70-79, M
Liked n saw Avatar not seen new Dune movie yet or gravity.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Senecaa Dune is really good.
firefall · 61-69, M
Waterloo ... no CGI, just a hundred thousand actual extras. In uniforms.
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
Avatar should be on a list
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@JoeyFoxx Definately. Cheesy AF but the visuals were (and still are) so cutting edge. It's definately the best 3D movie.
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 agreed

Even in 2D… quite impressive.

and cheesy

@SW-User Good list. Suckerpunch is not a great movie but I agree on the visuals.
SW-User
@Burnley123 it also has the best soundtrack
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SW-User I agree. It was great in some ways.

I just found it creepy.

I think it was trying to show empathy for women who are abuse victims but it also sexually objectified them. It was also satirising dumb special effects based movies whilst also being one.

So it's like almost a great movie but also ridiculous and terrible.

Debbie Does Dallas 🤔
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SW-User Way better then "Debbie does Fire Station".
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
I can't think of a specific films, but movies that are filmed in other countries often are
iamelijah · 26-30, M
Visually? Hmmmm. That's tricky.
Well, if you are asking me mostly I'd choose MCU movies.
Peapod · 61-69, F
I thought Titanic was pretty impressive the first time I saw it.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
Apocalypse Now, Barry Lyndon, 2001.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@Fukfacewillie Blade Runner is my all time fave. I watched Lawrence of Arabia on the big screen on re-release. True, its awesome too! I love Kubrick generally and thought his 2001 was also visually impressive in many ways. I wonder what you thought of the newer Blade Runner too?
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
@PhilDeep I liked it, and the talent and skill of those who made it are incredible. Being older I am less “wowed” unfortunately. Seeing Blade Runner as a kid was mind blowing.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
@Fukfacewillie I first watched it when the Director's cut came out and have rewatched Final Cut and all the others multiple times too!

@BabyLonia Ohhhh... I like that movie and it's a good call.

Tbf, I was impressed with Avatar. That shit knew how to use 3D properly!
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@SW-User I saw it three times in the cinema. One of those times I went on my own. Visual cinematic masterpiece.
