@Starcrossed Even when the end of days happens, we can still opine. 😜
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Burnley123 even when the fantasy part is far faaar to close reality.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed Life imitates art. I fully believe that if it wasn't for subconscious fear of climate change, Fury Road and 2049 ;would never have been made

@Kwek00 I have lol yeah, but I super appreciate the list
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed Just so you know... a lot of these are not children friendly 😅
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Kwek00 of course
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
The Purge.

The Forever Purge was Garbage though. My favourite Purge movie was Election Year.
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@Muthafukajones Wish that was true.
I googled the word dystopian and I still don't know what that means.
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@WonderGirl1 Think movies like mad max. Or most of Europe after the great wars. And I'm sorry to say what is it is looking like in the Ukraine.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@WonderGirl1 Kind of the opposite of a Utopia -- instead of everything being great and perfect, everything is falling apart into chaos.
Slade · 56-60, M
@WonderGirl1 should go to a dictionary. Google blows cock!
ShiftingGears · 46-50, M
Escape from New York
bhatjc · 46-50, M

Edit: Whoops, I dunno how tf I ended up in this post. It's so old. My bad.

Idiocracy

Red Dwarf

If you're looking for something more substantial, and have a decent grasp on science fiction, I'd recommend Altered Carbon. It doesn't really hold anyone's hand, but it's worth the watch.

There's a bunch I could list, but these would be 3 I think most people could enjoy.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@SnailTeeth Altered Carbon was great
DallasCowboysFan · 61-69, M
The Clockwork Orange
1984
Metropolis

I have seen all of these on youtube.
Metropolis is a silent, black and white movie.
It's' an interesting movie and if you view it in the era it was made, it was ahead of its time in prdocution quaity and vision.
BobbyMoeven · 51-55, M
BREAKING BAD

I know it's not sci fi , but as a reflection of the American Dream and American Culture , I think it fits the bill of Dystopian .. Although it also follows path of Homers Odyssey somewhat .. There is a lot of layers there ..

Anyhow you can see , its my fave . .

@irishmolly72 evil one at that
Prisoner1972 · 51-55, MVIP
1984 the movie comes to mind. For the longest time I had a crush on the girl that played Julia. With that hairstyle she had that whole alternative music look going on.
Slade · 56-60, M
The Warriors
Slade · 56-60, M
@bhatjc My brother and his friends are serious Warriors philes. They've even traveled the routes they took on the subway.

That should have been a horrible movie but great direction, score, likeable characters and perfect lighting and photography just created a perfect storm.

It was a comic book on film
Slade · 56-60, M
@bhatjc Rembrandt (the Warrior who tagged everywhere they went) was godfather to an old co-worker. He's got a pic of his baptism and Rembrandt is donning the vest and colors 👍
bhatjc · 46-50, M
@Slade That it was. The movie reflected different parts of NYC back then. There is Warrior fan groups out there. They just had a while back the surviving actors do the ride again. That must be a really cool picture. 👍
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
Soylent Green, Planet of the Apes. A book called One Second After is a great story about failing society.
Old post but saw it in the feed.

I don't like dystopian movies but I would suggest "Brazil", starring Jonathan Pryce and Robert De Niro. It was suggested to me by a professor for a school report for my Journalism course when I was at Uni.

Also the movie " V for Vendetta".
irishmolly72 · 56-60, F
@LilMissAnonyMOUSE The latest Barbie looks pretty dystopian to me.

V for vendetta
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@SW-User love this one
Ferric67 · M
@SW-User that is an awesome movie, I believe that's a graphic novel turned into a movie
UpsideOutInsideDown · 36-40, M
Okay, I realise this post is forever years old, but also I'm a bit of a rogue...not sure if you would count it, but Akira is the best film for it. Also 12 Monkeys. And Dawn of the Dead (totally doesn't count, but I'm pimping it regardless). And Dredd, because that was just too exciting and awesome to not plug. Did you find any good ones out of this posting?
UpsideOutInsideDown · 36-40, M
@Starcrossed I need to watch that still. It passed me by entirely, but then suddenly I'm hearing how amazing it is. I swear I used to be so much more in touch!

And we're talking original Dawn of the Dead, right? Romero or bust!
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@UpsideOutInsideDown remakes are rarely good.
UpsideOutInsideDown · 36-40, M
@Starcrossed definitely. Often such a waste
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
Black Mirror's the one that immediately comes to mind.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@UndeadPrivateer I've been told by several people to just power through the first season. I couldn't get into it after the first 2 episodes.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Starcrossed Each episode is stand-alone, there's no real reason to watch them in any particular order. Feel free to jump to another season.
Brianthesnail · 56-60, M
@MsAnnThropy mine too

Dark City! :)

Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@uncalled4 thanks
Ferric67 · M
@uncalled4 twelve monkeys might be my favorite
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Ferric67 12 Monkeys rocked. It also made me realize that Brad Pitt had acting chops. I already knew that Bruce Willis was awesome.
Earthwrap · 41-45, M
I prefer utopias. Dystopias are becoming too real these days. Just walk outside your door for a dystopia. lol Sadly instead of learning from them I think they just influence people.

I was forced to read several dystopias 2 years ago. It was major depression with how real they have predicted things to get.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Earthwrap Ha ... this required crap novel in my 1998 Comp-Sci class did that to me. Moths to the Flame the Seductions of Computer Technology. It was a terrible book but somehow managed to mess my head up.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@Earthwrap that's completely understandable.

I'm not sure why I'm drawn to dystopian film. I think partially because I dream weird dreams when I do, and usually remember them easier. Not that they're good dreams, or that I like the uneasy feelings I can get watching something dystopian. Like watching a train wreck I suppose, just can't look away.
Earthwrap · 41-45, M
@Starcrossed They are just a disheartening reminder to me about the state of the world and the direction it's headed in. Also that people can predict such bad things when coming up with these stories and many of them become true. It's like people love suffering, violence, drama and want to see the world go down the toilet.

I need to surround myself with more positive and optimistic stuff. If I want a dystopia I can just turn on the news, read a newspaper, or basically just go out in public.

I kind of liked oryx and crake but I wish I could delete it from my memory because we are really entering a world of massive wealth inequality, more twisted than ever sexuality abuse, and oblivious morons using genetic engineering to cause massive suffering that's already underway.

I’m a big fan of 70’s dystopian movies like Soylent Green, Logan’s Run, and The Omega Man, which are all currently on Amazon Prime.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@SW-User PERFECT! Thanks man! 😎

You’re welcome. Enjoy! 😁@Starcrossed

Blade Runner and A Clockwork Orange were my favorites. You can probably stream those on Amazon

ALSO I found HIGH-RISE on HULU, very interesting it's got a GR8 feel to it, placing "old fashion" objects in a New World kindda way. lol if that makes sense! 🤩

Fringe (old tv show),The Prisoner (very old tv show)

It’s a movie that never got produced because the director and his family were silenced oh I mean murder suicide. The unfinished movie is called “The Grey State”.
This is the documentary based on it all, and what they described as the plot of the movie is a scary future that could await all of us, I even had nightmares about that future for so many years.

I always wondered why the CIA killed the creator of this movie before it got the chance to finish. Otherwise this would potentially be a favourite if it ever got produced. Because this movie may become a true story one day if we allow it to happen.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@SW-User are there any good Aussie ones I may not know of? I love watching non-US post apocalyptic/post crash settings and interpretations [err predictions?]
SW-User
@Starcrossed this isn’t an Aussie one. But there’s one I know of. “Tomorrow when the war began”.
Anything dystopia in Australia would be based on a true story lol because we are rapidly evolving into that life which is scary.

I really enjoyed Altered Carbon recently. If you like your dystopias sexy, violent, and complicated; this is the show for you!
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@CheshireCatalyst I can't wait for the next season of Altered Carbon. I binged that one embarrassingly fast.
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@Starcrossed It was great, it ticked every box for me.
I wouldn't call it my favorite but The Brother From Another Planetcomes to mind. It's a John Sayles film from the 80s. It's not quite dystopian but it's an interesting film.

Psycho Pass... Probably Hulu has it or you can stream it for free with commercials on vrv..
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@SerenitiesScars anime :) 😄👍

Is it in English or subtitles?
SerenitiesScars · 31-35, M
They should have both on Hulu... Vrv I think usually only offers you one... But if you sign up for a free month on vrv you get access to funimation and crunchyroll and then you'd have both..

“The Alienist” recently
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
@SomeLikeItHot it's rare a show freaks me out... I just couldn't with this one. The first couple episoses left me super unsettled.
@Starcrossed
The gutting of young boys does echo ugly reminders of “Jack the Ripper” even though he was London and this was New York.
SeekingHappiness · 36-40, M
"the road" it was on Netflix
